Arsenal clashed heads with Burnley at Turf Moor earlier this afternoon as they looked to secure all three points on the road. The Gunners made a terrific start to the game as they scored in the sixth minute courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal. However, the Clarets equalised in the 39th minute when Chris Wood inadvertently found the back of the Arsenal net. Both sides went into the half-time break all level on the scoreline.
The North London outfit kept dominating possession in the second half but were not clinical enough in the final third as the contest finished 1-1 with both teams sharing the points at Lancashire.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the clash against the Clarets.
GK: Bernd Leno – 7/10
The Arsenal keeper won a couple of important aerial duels for his team and managed to make some solid saves to restrict the Clarets to just one goal during the 90 minutes.
RB: Callum Chambers – 7/10
Chambers was strong in the air and was always willing to clear his lines when needed. He also created two good chances in the Burnley half.
CB: David Luiz – 7/10
The Brazilian centre-back dealt with mostly everything that came his way but will be disappointed for not keeping a clean sheet.
CB: Pablo Mari – 7/10
Mari won the ball back for his team on a couple of occasions and cleared the danger when left exposed at the back.
LB: Kieran Tierney – 6.5/10
The Scottish full-back made some essential clearances inside his half and was lively going forward.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 3/10
Xhaka made a school-boy error as he gifted the Clarets an equaliser when his poor clearance saw the ball strike Wood and go into the empty net. Such a mistake is simply not acceptable for a player of his experience.
CM: Thomas Partey – 6/10
He made life difficult for Burnley at the centre of the park but offered very little in the attacking third of the pitch.
LW: Willian – 6/10
The Brazilian playmaker set-up Aubameyang’s goal early in the game. However, he hardly influenced the game afterwards and was taken off in the 68th minute.
CAM: Martin Ødegaard – 6.5/10
Odegaard has his bright moments in the final third and did well to orchestrate two good chances for his teammates. However, he ran out of gas and was substituted after the hour mark.
RW: Bukayo Saka – 6.5/10
He was not afraid to have a shot at goal but was toothless in the decisive end of the field. However, he deserves a pat on the back for causing some headaches for the Burnley defenders.
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7/10
The Gabon international kept his calm to score an early goal and was a threat throughout the remainder of the game.
Substitutes:
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10
The Frenchman hardly got a sniff at goal.
LW: Nicolas Pepe – 6/10
Pepe had a couple of chances but didn’t have the quality to get his name on the scoresheet.
CM: Dani Ceballos – 6/10
He added some energy to the Gunners midfield.
