Arsenal faced off against West Ham United at the London Stadium earlier this afternoon, hoping to pick up a positive result on the road in the Premier League. The Gunners made a poor start to the game and conceded an early goal in the 15th minute when Jesse Lingard found the back of the net. Jarrod Bowen doubled the home side’s advantage just two minutes later before Tomas Soucek added another goal to the Hammers tally in the 32nd minute. However, it was Soucek who gave Arsenal a lifeline six minutes later when he scored an unfortunate own goal which meant that Mikel Arteta’s side went into the half-time break 3-1 down on the scoreline.
The Gunners dominated the game in the second 45 minutes and got a stroke of good fortune when Craig Dawson scored another own goal in the 61st minute. Alexandre Lacazette pulled off the remarkable comeback for Arsenal in the 82nd minute when he scored with a powerful header. The match finished 3-3 with both sides sharing the points in the London derby.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the match against the Hammers.
GK: Bernd Leno – 6/10
The German goalie made some decent saves in the second 45 minutes to keep his team in the game but will be disappointed after conceding three poor goals in the first half.
RB: Calum Chambers – 7/10
Chambers got back and made some crucial clearances inside his half. He also managed to engineer quite a few inviting chances for his teammates in the West Ham half.
CB: David Luiz – 6.5/10
The Brazilian centre-back lacked concentration and made a couple of poor errors of judgement in the first half. However, he put in a much-improved defensive display in the second half.
CB: Pablo Mari – 6.5/10
Mari mopped up the danger when called into action and won multiple aerial duels for his team.
LB: Kieran Tierney – 5/10
Tierney gave the ball, which led to West Ham’s third goal in the game. However, he didn’t do much wrong otherwise and made one good chance in the final third.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 5.5/10
The Swiss international struggled to get a foothold in the game in the first 45 minutes. He ran out of gas and was replaced in the second half.
CM: Thomas Partey – 6.5/10
Partey disrupted West Ham’s rhythm in the game and did most of the defensive dirty work for Arsenal in midfield. He also had a couple of shots but offered very little in the attacking third.
LW: Bukayo Saka – 6.5/10
Saka was lively throughout his time on the pitch but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal or an assist.
CAM: Martin Odegaard – 7.5/10
Odegaard created all kinds of problems for the Hammers with his excellent creativity and relentless running in the final third.
RW: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 6.5/10
The Gabon international was lacklustre in the opposition half and never looked like he had a goal in him. He got replaced late in the game.
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 8/10
The French striker was a constant nuisance for the West Ham centre-halves and had quite a few shots at goal. He popped up with the all-important equaliser late in the game.
Substitutes:
LW: Nicolas Pepe – 7.5/10
He came off the bench to set-up Lacazette’s equalising goal.
CAM: Emile Smith Rowe – 6/10
Smith Rowe produced a decent cameo in the final quarter of the game.
ST: Gabriel Martinelli – 6/10
The Brazilian youngster struggled to get into the game.
