According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are eying a move for Andre Silva. The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has emerged as an ideal candidate for the Gunners as they brace themselves for life without Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman’s current contract at Emirates expires in 2022 and a move away from north London could be on the horizon this summer.
Andre Silva’s Breakthrough In The Bundesliga
Andre Silva was signed permanently from AC Milan last summer, for a fee of just €3 million. He was coming on the back of a rather chaotic debut campaign in the Bundesliga, although his rather impressive tally of 12 goals may suggest otherwise.
Nevertheless, Eintracht Frankfurt’s decision to keep hold of Silva’s services has turned out to be a steal, as the Portuguese international has been firing on all cylinders this season.
In just 21 Bundesliga matches, Silva has netted 19 goals – a tally only bettered by the mercurial Robert Lewandowski. Most of his goals have come since the turn of the year, with the forward playing a key role in helping Frankfurt emerge as the best performing team in the Bundesliga so far this year.
Is Andre Silva The Ideal Candidate For Arsenal?
In many ways, Andre Silva does resemble Arsenal’s very own Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Indeed, the Eintracht forward relies heavily on his positioning and has an ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities.
While the 25-year-old does lack the pace of Aubameyang, he can make up for it with his heading prowess. It is combined with the positioning sense and composure. As such, most of his goals in Bundesliga this season have either come from headers, tap-ins or penalties.
It essentially means that Mikel Arteta could face problems accommodating two similar players into the starting eleven. While Silva is undoubtedly a lethal number nine, he is often ineffective without any consistent service upfront, like Eintracht have, thanks to the golden creative trifecta of Filip Kostic, Daichi Kamada and Amin Younes.
It could be problematic at Arsenal, who are often inconsistent in regards to their creative essence. Not to mention, Silva could be a touch expensive as well and given his similarities with Aubameyang, the Gunners should certainly look elsewhere this summer.
