According to Mirror, Arsenal are among clubs monitoring Kyle Joseph. The young Wigan Athletic forward has raised a lot of eyebrows with his performances in League One this season. Aged just 19, Joseph is already courted by Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers as well as the Gunners, who have been tracking his progress for quite some time now.
Who Is Kyle Joseph?
A product of the Wigan youth academy, Kyle Joseph was essentially a successor of another bright academy talent in Joe Gelhardt. The youngster’s move to Leeds United last summer paved the way for young Joseph to get a call-up to the senior side at the start of the season.
After spending his time on the bench during the early stages of the campaign, the 19-year-old eventually became a key member of the Wigan attack. In fact, he made 15 back to back appearances in the league since making his debut against Northampton. Joseph scored five goals during the period, which proved to be essential for a Wigan side that are currently languishing at the bottom end of the League One table.
Joseph hasn’t featured much since the turn of the year and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, a move away from DW Stadium could be on the horizon this summer.
Should Arsenal Invest In Joseph?
Kyle Joseph has showcased his quality in League One this season but certainly needs to prove himself in a higher level of football. It is also worth noting that three of his five goals came in a hat-trick against Burton Albion.
Joseph’s potential does indeed make him an excellent investment from Arsenal’s perspective. But the club needs to appear patient with his development and give him the opportunity to succeed.
A move to Arsenal, in that regard, should disrupt his progress as the 19-year-old will likely be drafted into the club’s U19 setup. The Gunners, though, could fancy finding a loan deal for the youngster, who is certainly an ideal fit for any Championship side next season.
It is more of a risk for Joseph than it is for Arsenal, as the youngster will hardly cost them a penny, especially with his contract expiring at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see whether Celtic or Rangers can take a lead by offering him an opportunity to make an impact in the first-team.
