West Ham United locked horns with Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier tonight hoping to win and progress into the next round of the FA Cup. The home side dominated the ball in the first half but failed to break the Hammers down as both teams went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
The East London outfit struggled to create too many chances in the second 45 minutes but were resolute defensively as they held Man United to a 0-0 scoreline after normal time. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men got their noses ahead in the 97th minute via Scott McTominay’s goal. That turned out to be the difference between the two sides as the match ended with the Hammers suffering a narrow 1-0 loss after extra-time which knocked them out of the FA Cup.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the clash against the Red Devils.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6.5/10
He was sloppy with his ball-distribution but made some decent saves to keep a clean sheet in normal time. However, he will be disappointed after conceding an early goal in extra-time.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 6.5/10
Coufal kept things solid at the back and made a couple of decent sprints down the right flank.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
Dawson maintained a solid defensive shape at the back and did what was asked of him quite well in normal time. However, all of his good work went in vain as Man United found the back of the net in extra-time.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 6/10
The Italian defensive ace suffered an ankle injury and had to go off injured in the 16th minute.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 7/10
He didn’t put a foot wrong in the game defensively and created one good chance going forward.
CM: Mark Noble – 6.5/10
The English veteran protected his backline well but failed to create too many clear-cut chances in the Man United half.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
Rice was not afraid to get stuck in with a few tackles and made a couple of darting runs from midfield.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 6.5/10
He worked his socks off to help his teammates out in defence and made a few important interceptions in the first half. He was subbed at half-time.
LW: Pablo Fornals – 5.5/10
Fornals struggled to engineer any meaningful chances in the attacking third. He was taken off before the end of normal time.
CAM: Tomas Soucek – 6.5/10
Soucek made a couple of adventurous runs during the game but never got a sniff at goal.
ST: Andriy Yarmolenko – 6/10
The Ukrainian attacker offered very little during his time on the field and was subbed early in the second half.
Substitutes:
CB: Issa Diop – 6/10
He had to come on early in the first half but had to be taken off at half-time.
RM: Ryan Fredericks – 6.5/10
He made some driving runs with the ball and got stuck in with a tackle when required.
LM: Ben Johnson – 7/10
Johnson was defensively solid and had some bright moments in the opposition half.
ST: Ademipo Odubeko – 6/10
He failed to influence the game and was taken off in extra-time.
CAM: Manuel Lanzini – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
