As reported by the Express, Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in pursuit of Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Recent reports from Sport1 state that the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily hit Borussia Dortmund as the German side is projected to finish the 2020/21 season with a net loss of €75million. As a result, key stars are likely to be sold this summer to balance out the books – and Jadon Sancho fits the bill.
Jadon Sancho was on the verge of securing a move to the Old Trafford last summer as he even agreed on the personal terms; however, Ed Woodward pulled out of the deal as the Dortmund board refused to lower the €120m asking fee. Nonetheless, the present conditions have certainly boosted his chances of joining the Premier League, with Manchester United likely to be one of his suitors.
Jadon Sancho: Strengths And Weaknesses
Well, Jadon Sancho has been scoring and creating regularly since moving to Germany in 2017, and this season hasn’t been any different either. Despite a slow start to the campaign, the 20-year-old now stands at 21 goal contributions (8 goals and 13 assists) in 26 games across all competitions. He has also managed to put up some impressive numbers on the board this term – averaging 2.2 shots, 2.7 key passes, 3.3 dribbles, and 1.2 crosses per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga.
With attributes like pace, dribbling and vision under his belt, the ex-City star is often able to stretch the opposition defences and create pockets of space for the strikers to run into – something that would highly suit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s counter-attacking style of play. Furthermore, his ball-carrying ability from deep and his ability to take on defenders out wide – followed by cutting inside or delivering a cross for his team-mates – is what makes him a deadly weapon against any defence in the world.
Flipping over to the defensive side of his game, Sancho is often accused of not tracking back his marker, which in turn leaves his side vulnerable to counter-attacks. Furthermore, standing at 1.80 metres, the youngster struggles to win aerial duels most of the times. At 20, Sancho has plenty of time on his side to work upon his shortcomings, and it’s likely that he’ll only get better with each passing season.
What Will The England International Add to Solskjaer’s Side?
Well, Solskjaer doesn’t have too many quality players who are naturally suited to the right-wing role at this moment. It seems Dan James is not really in the equation right now, whereas Marcus Rashford seems more comfortable on the left-wing. Academy graduate Mason Greenwood has shown some promising signs, but the club desperately needs a proven player to fill the role.
Under such circumstances, Solskjaer should definitely try and do everything within his power to lure Sancho to the Theatre of Dreams. He does fit the Norwegian tactician’s style of play and might well turn out to be a brilliant signing for the Red Devils.
