Tottenham Hotspur are looking to continue their winning momentum when they take on Everton in the 5th Round of the FA Cup on Wednesday. The Lilywhites’ attempts to get inside the top four have been derailed by a poor start to 2021, but they are still alive in the cup competitions. So it won’t be surprising to see Jose Mourinho going all out against the Toffees this midweek.
Predicted Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Everton
Defence
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make at least one change to their defensive unit, with Eric Dier, in particular, hoping to return to the starting eleven at the expense of Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld had started Spurs’ last two matches, so he might be rested in this midweek encounter. It should bode well for Davinson Sanchez, who is likely to form the central defensive partnership alongside Dier.
Serge Aurier was substituted against West Brom with an apparent calf injury. So he might make way for Matt Doherty at right-back, while Ben Davies remains the only option on the opposite flank as Mourinho continues to struggle with the absence of Sergio Reguilon.
There might not be any change in goal as well, with Hugo Lloris getting the nod ahead of Joe Hart, who has been the first-choice goalkeeper in the FA Cup thus far.
Midfield
Tanguy Ndombele has been featuring in games for more than 60 minutes recently, but Mourinho could break that trend this midweek. Although the Frenchman should still earn a start, he will operate in a number ten role and is likely to be taken off around the hour mark, with Lucas Moura being a potential alternative.
In the more defensive role, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a guaranteed starter in the holding midfield position and could be partnered by Harry Winks. Moussa Sissoko is another option should Mourinho prefer more energy in the middle of the park.
Attack
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to persist with Harry Kane despite his fitness problems in recent weeks. This is a must-win game so we could see the English international spearhead the Spurs attack alongside Son Heung-Min.
As for the additional attacking role, Mourinho has to choose between four options in Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, Steven Bergwijn and Gareth Bale. Bergwijn is the favourite, having only featured as a substitute against West Brom while Bale could once again be utilised as a late sub.
