After a horror show at the Camp Nou in midweek against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Barcelona will be returning to action in the Primera Division against Cadiz. The newly-promoted Spanish side are placed 15th on the points table.
Barcelona will be seeking to return to winning ways this Sunday afternoon as two all-important clashes against Sevilla are lined-up in a weeks time. The La Liga fixture could make or break the deal for Barcelona in the points table. Just like the Copa del Rey fixture where Barca trail 0-2 from the first leg, Koeman’s side can not afford to drop any more points in the league either.
The Dutch manager would be relieved with the return of Gerard Pique who will help out the team massively in defence. However, the likes of Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho, Serio Roberto and Ronald Araujo continue to remain missing from the fold. Here’s how Barcelona could take to the field against Cadiz –
Barcelona Predicted Line-Up Against Cadiz
Barcelona Predicted Line-Up Against Cadiz
Defence
Marc Andre Ter Stegen will be starting between the sticks for the Cules. The German goalie has shipped in way too many goals of late and will be wanting to change that against a 15th positioned Cadiz side. Sergino Dest will continue to occupy the right-back slot despite a mediocre performance against Paris Saint-Germain. Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet will be Ronald Koeman’s most likely centre back duo for the fixture. Lenglet however will have to be cautious having already amassed four yellow cards this season. Jordi Alba will be starting at the left-back position ahead of Junior Firpo.
Midfield
Miralem Pjanic is expected to get the green light for this fixture ahead of Frenkie de Jong who would be given some much-needed rest. Sergio Busquets will retain his place in the starting eleven. The veteran midfielder would be entrusted with the responsibility of keeping things tight and compact at the back against Cadiz. Riqui Puig is most likely expected to feature in the playing eleven ahead of Pedri. Although this midfield trident has not played a lot of minutes together, they would be sufficient in dealing with the relegation-threatened Cadiz side.
Attack
Fransico Trincao would be starting on the right flank ahead of Dembele who put in a lacklustre display against Paris Saint-Germain. Lionel Messi scored Barcelona’s lone goal of the night in midweek and will be leading Barcelona’s attacking line once again against Cadiz. The Argentine would be determined to get his team back into the right frame of mind post the slump against PSG, and nothing less than a convincing victory on Sunday afternoon will ensure this. Antoine Griezmann would be starting on the left flank. The Frenchman started the new calendar year in the best possible manner with match-winning goals and crucial assists. However, Griezmann’s vibrant performances have slowed down and it’s high time before he pulls up his socks.
