Rangers had little time to recover ahead of hosting Dundee United this afternoon at Ibrox. They engaged in a seven-goal thriller against Antwerp on Thursday night and endured a couple of major injury woes despite clinching a dramatic 4-3 win in the Europa League Round of 32 contest.
Yet the Gers were relentless as they registered a thumping 4-1 win versus the Tangerines.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their win against Dundee United.
Allan McGregor: 7
Conceded thrice against Antwerp but showed his supremacy in the early minutes when he denied Lawrence Shankland from earning a lead for the visitors. Stopped Louis George Appéré on a couple of occasions but conceded a late goal which seemed a bit sloppy and against the run.
Leon Balogun: 7.5
Settled in well in a makeshift right-back role amid skipper James Tavernier’s injury blow. Played his part in Ryan Kent’s goal, also kept on whipping in pinpoint crosses while making overlapping runs.
Connor Goldson: 6.5
Made a few crucial interceptions and recoveries against the likes of Appéré and Shankland. Got dispossessed once and mistimed his tackles on a couple of occasions.
Filip Helander: 7
Had some nervy moments but was mostly in the right place at the right time. Tried to build the game up from the back and dealt well with opponents’ attacks. Was taken off for new signing Jack Simpson around the 67th-minute mark.
Borna Barisic: 7
Scored from a couple of spot-kicks against Antwerp but was denied expertly by Benjamin Siegrist in Dundee United goal. Was impressive otherwise with his attacking involvement and timely recoveries while tracking back.
Steven Davis: 7.5
No rest for the veteran midfield ace as he once again orchestrated the show from the centre of the pitch. Never allowed the Tangerines to settle in the middle of the park and was taken off to be replaced by Scott Wright midway through the second half.
Ryan Jack: 6.5
Started the game brightly but suffered another injury misfortune which forced him to leave the pitch minutes before the half-hour mark. Glen Kamara was introduced to replace the Scotsman.
Joe Aribo: 8.5
An exquisite display from the versatile midfield star who not only played his part in Hagi’s goal but also found the net spectacularly with an effort from distance. Offered his creative spark from in and around the attacking third.
Ianis Hagi: 7.5
Directed Aribo’s strike into the back of the net to break the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Looked lively with his runs and link-up play before making way for Scott Arfield just over the hour mark.
Ryan Kent: 8
Continues his stupendous form as his strike deflected off Ryan Edwards to beat past Siegrist and doubled the lead moments after Hagi’s opener.
Alfredo Morelos: 9
The Colombian was denied by Siegrist time and again before earning a well-deserved goal to make it 4-0 around the 64th-minute mark. Also set-it up for Aribo with a smart one-two and received plaudits from Steven Gerrard while making way for Jermain Defoe three minutes later.
Rangers Ratings vs Dundee United
Glen Kamara: 7
Dominated the game with his technicality from the centre of the pitch.
Scott Arfield: 6
Enjoyed his time on the pitch in terms of injecting stability as well as attacking contribution.
Scott Wright: 6
Adjusting gradually with minutes and should attune to Gerrard’s gameplan prior to the upcoming campaign.
Jack Simpson: 5.5
Could have done a lot better defensively in the closing minutes and stop Marc McNulty from reducing the deficit.
Jermain Defoe: 6
Created one opportunity in the closing minutes.
