Manchester United faced off against West Ham United at the Old Trafford earlier tonight hoping to pick up a win a secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Solskjaer made some key changes to his side from the draw vs. Everton as Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic were recalled into the starting line-up.
It took the hosts 97 minutes to break the deadlock as Scott McTominay drilled the ball past Lukasz Fabianski to score the winning goal of the contest in extra time.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the match against the Hammers.
Dean Henderson – 7/10
The English shot-stopper hardly had anything to do as the visitors managed to get just a single shot on target throughout the game.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Once again, the English right-back put up a solid defensive performance to prevent David Moyes’ men from creating any sort of chance in the attacking third.
Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
The skipper looked fairly comfortable and confident at the back. His kept his composure to fend off the threats posed by the West Ham frontmen.
Victor Lindelof – 7.5/10
The Swedish centre-back went close to opening the scoreline in the 26th minute as his header came off the woodwork. He seemed decent defensively and paired well with Harry Maguire.
Alex Telles– 8/10
The Brazilian full-back looked full of energy down the left flank as he made a couple of important recoveries and tried his level best to support the attacking gameplay.
Fred – 6.5/10
The Bazilian international’s ball distribution was below average tonight.
Nemanja Matic – 6.5/10
The Serbian international didn’t do much wrong, but he lacked the creative intent his side needed to break the deadlock.
Donny van de Beek – 6/10
The Dutch international didn’t look sharp at all tonight. It seems as if the lack of regular game time has started to affect his overall abilities.
Marcus Rashford – 7.5/10
The Englishman looked threatening on the left as his pace and slick movement created all sorts of menace for the Hammers’ backline. Laid down the ball beautifully for Scott McTominay in the first half of the extra time which was subsequently converted.
Mason Greenwood – 7/10
The 19-year-old displayed tremendous skills to get past his markers with little to no effort; however, he lacked the quality in the final third. Was replaced by Edinson Cavani in the 86th minute.
Anthony Martial – 7/10
The French striker looked very active throughout the match but failed to break the West Ham defence as most of his shots were blocked.
SUBSTITUTES
Luke Shaw – 6/10
Shaw didn’t have much to do after coming on.
Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
The Portuguese playmaker upped the tempo of the game as soon as he came on.
Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The Uruguayan striker made some good runs behind the West Ham defence, but that’s all he had to offer.
Brandon Williams – 6/10
Ditto as Luke Shaw, Williams was subbed on with the sole purpose of adding a pair of fresh legs to the hosts’ backline.
Scott McTominay – 8/10
The Scottish midfielder added solidity to United’s midfield and scored the all-important goal which tipped the scoreline in United’s favour.
