Manchester City faced off against Everton at Goodison Park earlier tonight hoping to secure a win and stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s men made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 32nd minute courtesy of Phil Foden’s goal. However, Richarlison equalised for the Toffees just five minutes later when he found the back of the net. Both sides went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
Man City pushed on in search of the lead in the second half and broke the deadlock once again in the 63rd minute via Riyad Mahrez’s world-class goal. Bernardo Silva sealed the three points for the visitors when he added another goal in the 77th minute. The contest ended with the Mancunian giants securing a comfortable 3-1 victory at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the clash against the Toffees.
GK: Ederson – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper had an easy outing tonight but will be disappointed after conceding a first-half goal which ruined his hopes for a clean sheet.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
Walker mistimed his tackles but deserves credit for being lively in the Everton half. He whipped in a couple of inviting crosses from the wide areas.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
The Portuguese centre-back made two important clearances at the back and was strong in the air. However, he won’t be happy after conceding a goal in the first half.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Frenchman put his foot through the ball when needed and was a commanding figure inside his half.
LB: Joao Cancelo – 7.5/10
Cancelo didn’t put a foot wrong in defence and was a constant menace in the final third. He was always willing to make a few driving runs down the left flank and even had a couple of shots at goal.
CM: Phil Foden – 7.5/10
The English youngster opened the goal-scoring after the half-hour mark. He also created a good chance in the attacking third.
CM: Rodri – 7/10
The Spaniard was not shy of going in for a tackle and engineered a few decent openings in the final third.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 8.5/10
Silva created all sorts of problems for the Merseyside outfit and ended the game with a goal and an assist to his name.
LW: Raheem Sterling – 7/10
Sterling pulled off some dangerous dribbles with the ball but never got a sniff at goal himself.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 7/10
The Brazilian striker was not clinical enough to get himself a goal but finished the match with an assist in the bag.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 8/10
The Algerian international scored a brilliant goal in the 63rd minute to put Man City ahead for the second time on the night. He will be eager to build on this performance in the coming weeks.
Substitutes:
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 6/10
The Belgian playmaker offered very little after coming off the bench.
CM: Fernandinho – N/A
He did not get enough time to make an impact.
