Liverpool faced off against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier this afternoon hoping to put an end to their wretched run of form in the Premier League. The Reds dominated the game for a lot of the first half but were toothless in the final third. They went into the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts.
The Merseyside giants finally managed to get themselves ahead courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s goal in the 67th minute. However, James Maddison equalised for Leicester just 11 minutes later when his goal was allowed to stand by VAR. Jamie Vardy capitalised on an Alisson Becker mistake to put the Foxes ahead soon before Harvey Barnes killed the game off with another breakaway goal. The match ended with Jurgen Klopp’s men suffering a disappointing 3-1 victory on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the clash against the Foxes.
GK: Alisson Becker – 3/10
The Brazilian keeper made some solid saves during the game. However, all of his good work were undone when he had a communication breakdown with Ozan Kabak which gifted Leicester the three points.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6/10
The English right-back was far from convincing defensively but passed the ball well in the opposition half and engineered some decent openings for others around him. He also hit the crossbar from a freekick.
CB: Ozan Kabak – 3/10
Kabak hid behind the ball for major periods of the game and had a communication breakdown with his keeper which completed the turnaround for the Foxes. It was a nightmare debut for him today.
CB: Jordan Henderson – 7.5/10
The Liverpool captain controlled the game well out from the back. He created some decent chances by playing some sublime crosses to the front players and didn’t deserve to end up on the losing team.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 5/10
The Scottish full-back ran himself to the ground, but his decision making in the final third often let him down. Defensively, he had a tough game when trying to stop Leicester from breaking on the counter.
CM: James Milner – N/A
Milner had to be taken off early in the game because of an injury.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10
The Dutch midfield ace kept the ball well without creating anything of note in the attacking third.
CM: Curtis Jones – 5/10
Jones made some clever turns to retain possession in tight spaces for his team. However, he lacked creativity in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 7/10
The Egyptian winger was a constant menace for the Leicester defenders and continued his goal-scoring run with a brilliant finish in the second half. However, it was not enough for his team to get anything out of this contest.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 8/10
The Brazilian striker worked his socks off to lead the press in the first half. He was quite good when on the ball and displayed a moment of pure magic when he set-up Salah’s opener in the 67th minute. Still, he didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
LW: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese winger tried to make things happen in the first half. However, his performance level faded as the game progressed in the second 45 minutes.
Substitutes:
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 5/10
He turned over the ball far too often and was also guilty of giving away a cheap free-kick which Maddison scored from in the 78th minute.
CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
CAM: Xherdan Shaqiri – N/A
The Swiss international didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
