In a recent report, Diario Madridista has claimed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. It is believed that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is pushing for a move to bring the Brazilian youngster to Anfield with Los Blancos considering cashing in on him in the summer (via Diario Madridista).
Vinicius’ Inconsistent Form At Real Madrid This Season
Vinicius has endured a lacklustre season at the Spanish capital after struggling to find consistency with his performances for Zinedine Zidane’s first-team. He has banged in three goals and provided three assists in 26 matches for the Madrid outfit this term across all fronts.
The 20-year-old has only managed to average 0.9 tackles, 1.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League group stages. Still, the Brazilian attacker deserves a pat on the back for interchanging possession relatively well in the opposition half as he has made 85% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
The ex-Flamengo talent is currently under a long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, so Liverpool might have to pay a hefty sum to convince Los Blancos to part ways with their prized asset when the transfer window reopens next summer.
What Will The Brazilian Wing Wizard Add To Jurgen Klopp’s Team?
Vinicius is one of the quickest wide players in European football. He can turn on the afterburners to lose his marker with ease when left isolated in a 1v1 foot race. The Brazilian sensation has also got outstanding ball-control to keep possession in tight spaces and can be a tough proposition for any defender in European football. Furthermore, he is a hard-working winger who might suit Jurgen Klopp’s brand of counter-pressing football at Anfield if the Reds decide to move in for the player in the summer.
At 20, the Brazilian sensation will only get better with each season despite his recent struggles in front of the opponent’s goal. Klopp could be the perfect manager to unlock his true potential and get the best out of him in the years to come.
The Liverpool manager has currently got Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as his first-team wingers while Divock Origi and Diogo Jota offers some cover for that position in his squad. However, Origi has failed to give a good account of himself for the Merseyside club this season. Therefore, Klopp should consider letting the Belgian striker leave and replacing him with someone like Vinicius Junior, who has bags of potential and would have a lot of resale value in the future. Obviously, the biggest issue at hand will be the transfer fee Real Madrid demands for this youngster which could well put him out of reach of Liverpool.
