In a recent television segment with SportBILD, renowned journalist Christian Falk has mentioned that Leicester City remain interested in recruiting Bayer 04 Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah. It has also been revealed that the German defensive ace has got a €35m release clause in his current contract at the BayArena which could open the door for the Foxes to seal a move for him during the summer transfer window (via Christian Falk).
Tah’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season
Tah is having a good season at Leverkusen after putting in a run of dominant displays at the centre of Peter Bosz’s defence. The 25-year-old has been involved in 22 matches for the German club this term, netting one goal and picking up three yellow cards in multiple competitions.
The Hamburg-born sensation has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the pitch as he is averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. Tah has even distributed possession accurately out from the back by completing 90.6% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
The way things have been going for him this season, it seems like the Leverkusen star could make a significant impact in the Premier League if Rodgers decides to bring him to the King Power Stadium at the end of this season.
What Does The Bundesliga Centre-Half Offer On The Field?
Tah has proven himself to be a reliable defensive presence at the back due to his ability to sense the danger quickly and nip them in the bud. Standing at 1.95m, he is a towering centre-back who can command his penalty area with authority and conviction.
The German powerhouse can also make himself big to block some goal-bound shots from the opposition and possesses the defensive awareness to pull off a few important interceptions for his team. However, he lacks the pace to get back and defend when caught out of position, which can sometimes make him a liability on the pitch.
Will Tah Be The Right Fit For The Foxes?
Tah has established himself as one of Bundesliga’s best centre-halves over the past 18 months. Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has a knack for finding good defenders for the right price and can develop them into top talents as evidenced by the success of Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana recently.
At 25, Tah has got the room to grow into a world-class player in his position that makes a good fit for the East Midlands outfit in the long-run. He will undoubtedly add some bite and steel to the Leicester backline. Furthermore, Tah will improve the overall depth of Rodgers’ squad at the King Power Stadium in the coming seasons.
