Leicester City locked horns with Aston Villa at Villa Park earlier this evening as they looked to pick up maximum points on the road. The Foxes made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 19th minute via James Maddison’s goal. Harvey Barnes doubled the away team’s advantage just four minutes later when he found the back of the Aston Villa net. The East Midlands club protected their lead well and went into the half-time break two goals up on the scoreline.
Bertrand Traore got a goal back for the Villans just three minutes into the second half, but it turned out to be a consolation effort as the match finished 2-1 in favour of Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester player fared during the match against the Villans.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 6/10
The Leicester keeper was sloppy with his passing but did make a couple of important clearances. He didn’t have too many saves to make and conceded a goal early in the second half, which extinguished his hopes of a clean sheet.
RB: Timothy Castagne – 7.5/10
Castagne didn’t put a foot wrong in defence and cleared his lines when required. Offensively, he created one good chance in the Villans half.
CB: Jonny Evans – 6.5/10
He made quite a few crucial clearances at the back and was strong in the air but struggled to win the ball back for his team.
CB: Caglar Soyuncu – 7/10
Like his centre-back partner, Soyuncu won a lot of aerial duels and was always there at the right place to snuff out the danger.
LB: Luke Thomas – 6.5/10
Thomas was defensively solid and engineered a decent opportunity in the final third.
CM: Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10
Ndidi offered a lot of protection for his teammates at the back and did what was asked of him. However, he failed to make an impact in the opposition half.
CM: Youri Tielemans – 7/10
The Belgian playmaker produced another energetic performance in midfield and orchestrated several meaningful chances during the 90 minutes. He did not have too much defending to do in the game.
LW: Harvey Barnes – 8/10
Barnes was a constant nuisance for the Aston Villa defenders and was not shy of having a shot at goal. He ended the game with a goal and an assist to his name.
CAM: James Maddison – 8/10
Maddison opened the goal-scoring in the 19th minute and was a real threat in and around the Villans penalty box. He also made a couple of promising sprints in the Villa half.
RW: Ricardo Pereira – 7/10
Pereira orchestrated a couple of dangerous openings in the final third and was quite lively in the decisive end of the field. He ran out of gas and got subbed before the end of the game.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 6/10
The English striker squandered a few inviting opportunities to find the back of the net. He was marked out of the game by the Villans centre-backs.
Substitutes:
CM: Nampalys Mendy – 6/10
He struggled to get into the game.
RW: Daniel Amartey – 6/10
Amartey offered very little after coming off the bench.
CM: Hamza Choudhury – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
