According to Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United are among clubs interested in Tommaso Pobega. The Spezia midfielder, on loan from AC Milan, has raised many eyebrows with his performances in Serie A, with the newly-promoted Premier League outfit reportedly keen on securing his services. Leeds United, though, could face stiff competition from Bundesliga giants Eintracht Frankfurt and fellow league rivals Leicester City in the pursuit of the youngster this summer.
Who Is Tommaso Pobega?
A product of the Milan youth academy, Tommaso Pobega joined Spezia last summer, in a season-long loan deal. He joined the club in search of a breakthrough in professional football and hasn’t disappointed either.
Although his club Spezia are dawdling on the wrong side of the table, Pobega himself has emerged as a reliable first-team option for coach Vincenzo Italiano. The 21-year-old has already notched up 14 league appearances and has been involved in a total of five goals so far.
Pobega’s impressive statistics are indicative of his tendency to move forward, attacking the opposition. He is particularly adept in offering the ball-progression in the middle of the park while the Italian also has an eye for that key pass in the final third. Additionally, he can offer assurance in possession – making him quite a well-rounded central midfielder.
Should Leeds United Make A Move For Pobega?
Leeds United could certainly fancy making a move for Pobega in the summer. The Whites lack depth in resources in the middle of the park, often appearing too over-reliant on the services of Kalvin Phillips while Pascal Struijk has been mostly employed in a central defensive role. It leaves Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernadez, neither of whom are getting any younger.
From a sporting perspective, Pobega could serve as an ideal backup for Phillips next season. He can also provide the much-needed competition for the likes of Klich, Hernandez and even Stuart Dallas.
The 21-year-old has done well during his time at Spezia so far, and his overall quality has been minimised, to an extent, due to the club’s lack of quality. A move to Elland Road, in that regard, could give the Italian an ideal opportunity to unleash his talents, especially when it comes to the technical side of the game, at the highest level of football.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Milan are willing to offload Pobega in the summer. Perhaps most importantly, they could slap a high valuation for the player due to his performances at Spezia – making it difficult for Leeds to gamble on the midfielder. A lot could depend on how the player performs during the second half of the campaign.
