Tottenham Hotspur bow out of the FA Cup following a 5-4 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park this evening. It was an entertaining contest as both teams registered over 40 combined attempts on goal, with Spurs, in particular, desperately falling short despite making an extraordinary comeback after going down 3-1 at one stage. A goal from Bernard during extra time turned out to be the difference between the two sides at the end.
Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings Vs Everton
Hugo Lloris 6/10
There’s not much Hugo Lloris could have done to prevent Everton from scoring five goals, except the one from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Matt Doherty 6/10
Matt Doherty impressed with his forays down the flanks, but he was equally ineffective in the defensive game, notably allowing Bernard to run in behind for the winner.
Davinson Sanchez 6.5/10
Davinson Sanchez was a menace from set-pieces, thanks to his imposing frame. Defensively, he looked switched off on multiple occasions. Not a sign of a good defender.
Toby Alderweireld 6/10
Toby Alderweireld’s experience and leadership weren’t enough to provide any semblance of solidity in the Tottenham backline. Played a key role in the build-up though.
Ben Davies 6.5/10
Ben Davies kept things neat and tidy defensively, but couldn’t provide too much quality going forward.
Tanguy Ndombele 6.5/10
Tanguy Ndombele tried to run at defences and make things happen for his team in the final third. While he did succeed to an extent, the consistency was missing.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 6/10
It wasn’t exactly a great game for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Dane was unlucky with loose balls and had problems dominating the game in the middle of the park.
Erik Lamela 7.5/10
Erik Lamela offered the spark in the Tottenham attack that was necessary to infiltrate the opposition lines. Scored an important goal but was taken off for Vinicius.
Lucas Moura 6.5/10
Lucas Moura looked lively in the number ten role, but the Brazilian desperately needs to improve his end product. Taken off for Alli late in the game, which turned out to be an awful decision.
Steven Bergwijn 5/10
Steven Bergwijn once again provided very little to the table. He was super ineffective going forward and simply isn’t good enough to be picked ahead of Gareth Bale.
Son Heung-Min 8/10
Son Heung-Min was unsurprisingly the focal point of the Spurs attack, offering ball progression and creativity in the final third. He was involved in all of the four goals this evening, registering an assist for two of them.
SUBSTITUTES
Harry Kane 7/10
Harry Kane made a noticeable impact after coming on in the second half. He scored with his first chance, adding more quality in the Spurs attack. May have done a bit better from set-pieces.
Dele Alli 6/10
Struggled to influence the game after coming on for Lucas Moura. Picked up a yellow for simulation, which summed up his performance.
Harry Winks 6/10
Offered a bit of energy in the midfield after replacing the tiring Ndombele in the final minute of the normal time.
Carlos Vinicius 5/10
Came on for Lamela during extra time. Couldn’t make much difference.
Moussa Sissoko 5/10
Added some energy in the Tottenham midfield during extra time.
