Everton faced off against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to grind out a result on their travels. The Toffees were poor in the first half and conceded the opening goal in the 24th minute when Edinson Cavani found the back of the net. Bruno Fernandes doubled Man United’s advantage with a stunning strike in the 45th minute, leaving the Merseyside club with a mountain to climb in the second 45 minutes.
Abdoulaye Doucoure got a goal back for Everton just four minutes into the second half before James Rodriguez equalised with a controlled finish in the 52nd minute. Scott McTominay put Man United back ahead in the 70th minute with a well-directed header. However, the Toffees salvaged a point in the dying embers of the game when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored with a tidy finish from close range. The contest ended with both sides playing out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Robin Olsen – 5.5/10
Olsen made a couple of decent saves during the game but could have done a lot better to prevent McTominay’s goal in the second half.
RB: Mason Holgate – 6.5/10
He kept a good defensive shape at the back and made a few important interceptions for his team. He was also not shy about putting his put through the ball when required but did not venture forward too much during the game.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
Keane tried his best to keep the Man United attackers frustrated but won’t be happy after conceding three goals tonight. He ended the game with an assist to his name for setting up Calvert-Lewin’s last-minute equaliser. And that was some assist as well.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
The Everton centre-back had a difficult game inside his half but deserves credit for not giving up when faced with adversity.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6/10
Digne had an average game defensively and failed to engineer any meaningful chances in the Man United half.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6.5/10
The Portuguese midfield ace got stuck in with a few tackles and was quite tidy when distributing possession to his teamamtes.
CM: Tom Davies – 7/10
Davies was full of energy and fought for every loose ball at the centre of the park. However, he struggled to influence the game offensively and was replaced in the 74th minute.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 8/10
He worked his socks off and was at the heart of the quick Everton comeback early in the second half. Doucoure got a goal back for his team in the 49th minute and set up Rodriguez’s goal with a decent pass soon after.
LW: Richarlison – 6.5/10
The Brazilian winger pulled off a couple of promising dribbles but never looked like he had a goal in him.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7.5/10
Calvert-Lewin was marked out of the game by the Man United centre-backs. However, he was strong in the air and kept trying until he got his reward in injury-time when he scored a memorable late equaliser for Everton at Old Trafford.
RW: James Rodriguez – 7/10
The Colombian attacker was left frustrated in the first half. However, he was far more productive in the second half and got his name on the scoresheet with a good strike.
Substitutes:
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6/10
He added some energy to the Everton midfield.
RW: Alex Iwobi – 6/10
Iwobi failed to get himself involved in the game after coming off the bench.
ST: Joshua King – 6/10
He brought some pace onto the field but did not get a sniff at goal.
