Chelsea entertained Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight hoping to secure a victory and go fourth in the Premier League standings. The Blues made a bright start to the game and scored the opener in the 31st minute courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s goal from close range. Timo Werner doubled his side’s lead from point-blank range to put the West London outfit 2-0 up at half-time.
Both teams cancelled each other out in the second 45 minutes as the contest ended 2-0 in favour of Thomas Tuchel’s men at the English capital.

GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 7.5/10
The Spanish keeper got a rare opportunity to start, and he took full advantage by producing a solid display in goal for Chelsea tonight. He made some good saves to secure a well-deserved clean sheet from this game.
CB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7.5/10
Azpilicueta read the anger quickly and got stuck in with multiple tackles to earn the ball back for his side. He also made some crucial clearances at the back and will be quite content with the clean sheet.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 7/10
He won some important aerial duels for his team and did well to clear the danger when called into action.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 7/10
Rudiger performed his defensive duties well and was a strong presence in the air.
RM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7.5/10
The talented youngster had to do a lot of defending, but he stood up to the test. He even managed to engineer a couple of decent openings in the Newcastle half.
CM: Jorginho – 6.5/10
The Italian midfield ace got stuck in with a few tackles in midfield and retained possession with ease during the 90 minutes.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 8.5/10
Kovacic did his fair share of defending and was a constant menace for the Magpies defenders. He made plenty of driving runs from midfield and fashioned a couple of meaningful chances in the final third.
LM: Marcos Alonso – 7/10
The Spanish wide player cleared his lines when called into action and orchestrated some decent chances for others around him. He also had a few shots at goal but failed to find the back of the net.
RAM: Mason Mount – 7.5/10
Mount curved open the Newcastle defence multiple times during his time on the field. He got replaced in the second half.
LAM: Timo Werner – 7.5/10
The German speedster created all kinds of problems for the opposition in the first half. He set-up Giroud’s goal and then scored himself to put the Blues in a commanding position at half-time.
ST: Tammy Abraham – 6/10
He had to go off with an injury early in the game.

The French striker came off the bench to score with a controlled finish. However, he didn’t get too many chances to double his goal-tally.
CM: N’Golo Kante – 6/10
He created a good chance after coming on in the second half.
