In a recent report, SportBILD (subscription required) has claimed that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to back a move to land Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland this summer. It is believed that Abramovich has given his approval for the Blues to recruit the Norwegian marksman for a fee in excess of €100m at the end of this campaign (translated by The Daily Mail).
Haaland’s Incredible Form In German Football
Haaland has experienced another prolific season at Signal Iduna Park after producing some mesmerising displays as the focal point of the Dortmund attack. The 20-year-old has taken part in 25 matches for the German outfit this term, netting 27 goals and providing seven assists on all fronts.
The Leeds-born sensation has given a good account of himself on the offensive end of the field as he is averaging 3.4 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he can sometimes give away the ball cheaply when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third. Haaland has only made 67.8% of his attempted passes in the German first division this season (stats via whoscored).
The former Molde forward has already shown how devastating he can be in front of the opponent’s goal but is yet to taste success at the highest level. Hence, Haaland could be tempted with the opportunity to join the Blues as it will give him a proper shot of winning some major trophies in the coming seasons.
What Will The Norway International Add To Thomas Tuchel’s Side?
Haaland has got electric pace under his belt and can make some powerful runs with the ball in the attacking third. He is proficient at generating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and is usually a composed finisher inside the opposition penalty box.
The seven-time Norway international has also contributed by earning his fair share of assists in the opponent’s half and can use his strong 1.94m frame to outmuscle his marker and win some important aerial duels for his team.
A striker of Haaland’s quality and potential will undeniably be a massive coup for Chelsea if they can arrange a big-money move to bring him to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window. He will be an upgrade over Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham because of his consistency in terms of his goal-scoring in the final third. Furthermore, Haaland is a generational talent who is only going to get better with each season.
Thomas Tuchel could be the ideal man to oversee the Norwegian youngster’s development as he has previously managed another whizkid in the form of Kylian Mbappe during his time as the Paris Saint-Germain boss. Hence, the German head coach knows how to get the best out of his young players, which will only help the West London outfit in the long-run.
