It was a thrilling late win for Manchester United when they travelled to Tyneside to lock horns with Newcastle United four months ago. These two sides will clash heads once again on Sunday night, this time at Old Trafford with a view to meet their respective season goals.
While the Red Devils are lagging behind in the title race, Newcastle United are battling for survival with six points clear of a relegation scare. They need to step up the show to avoid any mishap and climb up the ladder to meet the demands of the supporters. The Magpies have settled for mediocrity in recent years and the situation has not improved even after Steve Bruce’s appointment as the St. James’ Park boss.
Predicted 4-3-3 Newcastle United Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Karl Darlow has waited long for his chances since joining the Toon Army. It’s been a frustrating spell for the custodian until this campaign when he seized the opportunity with both hands following Martin Dubravka’s injury concern. Although the Slovakian is fit enough to feature again, Darlow has retained the ‘number 1’ status for his impressive run of form.
Fabian Scar is ruled out for months following a knee injury he suffered against Southampton. Federico Fernandez is sidelined as well with a thigh problem and Newcastle, therefore, should stick with Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark as the central defensive pairing. Right fullback Javi Manquillo is unavailable with an ankle strain and the gaffer would have to bank on Emil Krafth who is finally making some appearances. Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie are available for selection, but we expect Jamal Lewis to occupy the left-back spot for his balanced display down the wide.
Midfield
Joe Willock made an instant impact since completing a winter loan from Arsenal. The experience of Jonjo Shelvey would be crucial against ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, also the presence of Isaac Hayden must be valued for his ability to defend deep and marshall the backline against the creative force behind the United attack. The Longstaff brothers might play their part at some stage depending upon the shape of the game.
Attack
Newcastle would struggle for goals in the absence of Callum Wilson. But they have the likes of Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll and Joelinton to lead the line and the latter should get the preference for his work ethics and physicality in and around the box. Miguel Almiron should operate from the right-hand flank, whereas the tricks and swift footwork of Allan Saint-Maximin might trouble the hosts against the run.
