Everton will entertain Manchester City at Goodison Park on Wednesday night as they look to grind out a result at home. The Toffees suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at the hands of Fulham last weekend. Hence, the Merseysiders will have to produce a much-improved showing versus Pep Guardiola’s men if they are to have any chance of claiming something from this game.
Carlo Ancelotti will probably opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to welcome Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin back from their respective injuries. Otherwise, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina could return to Ancelotti’s first-team at the expense of Ben Godfrey and Seamus Coleman, who will drop to the bench.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Jordan Pickford is a slight concern ahead of this game but could be ready in time to face Man City in midweek. As mentioned earlier, Yerry Mina will resume his defensive partnership with Michael Keane at the heart of the Everton backline as they try to limit the chances Man City create during the 90 minutes.
Mason Holgate could get the nod to fill in as a makeshift right-back while Lucas Digne continues to feature on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will have to find a way to cause some problems for the Man City full-backs out on the wide areas if Everton are to come out on top in this game.
Midfield
Tom Davies will play along with Abdoulaye Doucoure in the holding midfield positions as they focus on disrupting Man City’s rhythm at the centre of the park. The gifted trio of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and James Rodriguez is expected to function just ahead of them as part of Ancelotti’s attack. Both Sigurdsson and Richarlison flattered to deceive with their performances versus the Cottagers, so this game could be a good chance for them to make amends by putting on a good showing collectively in the opposition half.
Joshua King and Bernard will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to impress as the second half substitutes if needed.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin should recover in time for this game and might get a start to play as the centre-forward for the Toffees up top. The English striker will be Ancelotti’s best hope for a goal on Wednesday night.
