Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed on their official website that Meritan Shabani has penned a new contract which will keep him at the Molineux Stadium until the summer of 2023. The German striker has signed a new deal after impressing for the West Midlands club’s Under-23 team this season.
Shabani’s Career At Wolves Thus Far
The promising youngster made his first-team debut for Wolves in an EFL Cup match versus Reading in the previous campaign. However, Shabani suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in that game which saw him sidelined for a long time last year.
Fast forward to 2021 and the 21-year-old is playing well for Mark Delaney’s side at the U-23 level where he has caught the eye for producing some memorable displays on the offensive end of the pitch. Shabani has been in excellent form for Wolves’ U-23 side recently as he has banged in three goals and provided three assists in 11 matches for the Midlands club in the Premier League 2.
The way things are going for him, it is only a matter of time before he breaks into Nuno Espirito Santo’s senior squad. The two-time German Under-20 international needs to focus on getting better on the pitch so that he can catch the attention of his first-team manager in the coming months.
What Does The German Youngster Bring To The Table?
Standing at 1.85m, Shabani has got a real presence about him and is a decent passer of the ball in the opposition half. He is a moderately paced attacking midfielder who can also play a box to box role at the centre of the park or operate as a right-sided winger if required.
The German prospect can score and create his fair share of goals in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. Plus, he can also make some driving runs using his close control and dribbling ability to get out of tight situations on the offensive end of the field.
Shabani Pens New Contract: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Now that Shabani has put pen to paper on a new deal, Wolves will expect him to take great strides towards improving his overall game in the years to come. It seems like the Munchen-born player will benefit from getting his long-term future sorted as it will help him concentrate on getting better on the field.
As far as the West Midlands club are concerned, they have got an attacker with high potential who could flourish under Nuno Espirito Santo’s watchful eyes over the next few years. With all things considered, Shabani’s decision to extend his stay with Wolves is a good move that will benefit both the player and the club in the long-run.
