Wolverhampton Wanderers faced off against West Bromwich Albion at the Molineux Stadium earlier today hoping to register a home win in the Premier League. Wolves made a poor start to the game as they conceded a penalty in the eight-minute which Matheus Pereira converted to put the Baggies ahead on the scoreline. However, Fabio Silva scored the leveller in the 38th minute before Willy Boly gave his side the lead just before half-time when he scored with a side-footed finish.
The visitors made an impressive start to the second 45 minutes as they scored two quick-fire goals through Semi Ajayi’s header and another penalty from Pereira. Sam Allardyce’s men hung on to their narrow advantage as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side suffered a bitter 3-2 defeat at the West Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each Wolves player fared during the contest versus the Baggies.
GK: Rui Patricio – 6/10
The Portuguese keeper was tidy with his passing and made a couple of solid stops during the game. However, he will be disappointed after shipping in three goals today.
RB: Nelson Semedo – 7.5/10
Semedo was strong in the air and made some crucial interceptions for his side at the back. He was also lively going forward and pulled off many driving runs down the right flank.
CB: Willy Boly – 8/10
The 29-year-old made some important defensive contributions at the heart of the Wolves backline and was a real threat in front of the opposition goal as well. He ended the game with a goal and an assist to his name, but it was still not enough for him to end up on the winning side.
CB: Conor Coady – 5/10
He was far from convincing during his time on the pitch. Coady was replaced in the second half.
LB: Romain Saïss – 6.5/10
Saiss performed his defensive duties quite well but struggled to influence the game in the West Brom half.
CM: Leander Dendoncker – 7/10
He didn’t have too much defending to do but was quite creative with his passes in the final third. He created several good opportunities for his teammates to score and also had a few shots at goal.
CM: Ruben Neves – 6/10
Neves had a couple of shots and was also not shy of clearing the danger when needed. He was subbed near the hour mark.
CM: Joao Moutinho – 6.5/10
The Portuguese midfield ace produced a battling performance at the centre of the park and did well to stop some of the Baggies attacks during the game. However, he failed to create anything meaningful in the attacking third.
RW: Adama Traore – 7.5/10
Traore was a real live wire in the opponent’s half as he completed multiple dangerous dribbles down the right-wing.
ST: Fabio Silva – 8/10
The young striker equalised for his team in the 38th minute and was a constant headache for the West Brom centre-backs throughout the 90 minutes.
LW: Pedro Neto – 7.5/10
The Portuguese winger engineered plenty of chances for others around him but has ended the game without a goal or an assist to his name.
Substitutes:
CM: Morgan Gibbs-White – 6.5/10
Gibbs-White created some inviting openings for his teammates after coming off the bench.
LB: Rayan Aït-Nouri – 6/10
He struggled to get into the game.
ST: Patrick Cutrone – 5/10
Cutrone never looked like he had a goal in him.
