In a recent report, Le10Sport has claimed that West Ham United are eyeing a late move for Montpellier forward Gaetan Laborde this month. It is understood that the Hammers have been tracking the French striker’s performances for several months and has identified him as a target during this January transfer window (via Le10Sport).
Laborde’s Decent Form In French Football This Season
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a productive season at the Stade de la Mosson after putting in a string of match-winning performances as the focal point of Michel Der Zakarian’s attack. Laborde has banged in six goals and provided six assists in 21 matches for the French outfit this term across multiple competitions.
The ex-Bordeaux youngster has done well to average 2.4 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 this season. Still, he needs to improve his ball-distribution as he has made just 69% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Laborde could be tempted to join the Hammers this month if David Moyes decides to launch a move for him as it will allow the player to shine while playing with and against some of the best players in Premier League football.
What Are The French Centre-Forward’s Best Attributes?
Laborde is a deceptively quick presence in the final third and has even got the strength to hold possession up for his teammates. He is a hard-working striker who has got a great leap in him that allows him to win some 50-50 duels in the air. The five-time France Under-20 international is primarily a forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if needed.
The French sensation has established himself as a decent goal-scorer in the Ligue 1 and can even pick up an assist because of his vision to play a killer pass on the offensive end of the field. However, Laborde is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland, so he would be a risky acquisition for West Ham if they can get a deal finalised for his services before the end of this month.
Is Laborde The Right Fit For The Hammers?
The Montpellier star is currently playing at his prime and would undeniably add a few more goals and assists to David Moyes’ frontline. He will also serve as a more than capable back-up to Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.
At 26, Laborde still has plenty of years left in him to play at a high level which makes him a good fit for the East London outfit during this January transfer window. Therefore, Moyes should consider making a late offer to bring the talented marksman to the English capital this month.
