According to Sky Sports, Jack Clarke is being linked with a move away from Tottenham. The young attacker has been courted by several Championship clubs including Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Swansea while Sheffield Wednesday have also expressed interest. They are all keen on sealing a short-term loan deal for Clarke, who is ready for more first-team football.
Jack Clarke’s Spell At Tottenham So Far
Jack Clarke initially joined Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer of 2019, in an €11 million move from Leeds United. He was coming on the back of a breakthrough campaign in the Championship, though he was immediately loaned back to Elland Road in the corresponding summer transfer window.
Unfortunately, the youngster struggled to continue his progress at Leeds, failing to emerge as a first-team regular for the Whites. His loan deal was unsurprisingly cut short in January, with the player joining QPR on loan in the same window. His move to Loftus Road wasn’t a successful one either, as the attacker mustered only 139 minutes of league football.
However, Clarke is said to have impressed the onlookers, including Jose Mourinho upon his return to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. He has already made a couple of substitute appearances in the UEFA Europa League while featuring in eight matches in Premier League 2.
Does Clarke Have Any Future At Spurs?
Clarke’s talent and potential has already been well documented. But from a sporting perspective, a move away from Tottenham makes the most sense as the winger is barely a part of Mourinho’s first-team plans at the moment.
Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane are guaranteed part of the Spurs attack while the Lilywhites also boast the services of Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijin, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela. It leaves Clarke trailing down the pecking order, with the emergence of Tanguy Ndombele also playing a key role in further minimising his importance at the club.
A loan move to a club like Middlesbrough, in that regard, could be a logical decision as far as the player is concerned. The Championship outfit are apparently looking for new wingers amid uncertainty regarding the future of Duncan Watmore.
Even Stoke City could be a viable option, with the Potters still pretty much in the promotion race in the Championship this season. So it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Clarke in this ongoing January transfer window.
