According to Talksport, Danny Rose is closing in on his exit from Tottenham Hotspur. The defender is being linked with a move to Trabzonspor, who believe they have signed the player, after offering him a three-and-a-half-year contract. Rose himself favors a move abroad, so a switch to Turkey could be on the cards before the January transfer window slams to a shut.
Danny Rose’s Disastrous Spell Under Jose Mourinho
Danny Rose hasn’t had the best of relationships with Jose Mourinho following the arrival of the gaffer during the early phase of last season. The left-back was the club’s first-team regular under Mauricio Pochettino, but things became difficult following a rocky start to the campaign that led to the departure of the Argentine tactician.
Rose, on the other hand, had a major discrepancy with Mourinho, resulting in a loan move to Newcastle United in January. The English international returned to north London in the summer, but while his departure was inevitable, a move didn’t materialize.
The defender was later, quite predictably so, ostracized from the Spurs team by Mourinho. He was left out of the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads. He has, in fact, been restricted to a lower level of football, with the player notably making two appearances for the Elite Development Squad.
Turned into a complete outcast, Rose’s current contract in north London expires at the end of the campaign.
What Could Rose’s Departure Mean For Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to be fazed by the departure of Rose. They already have a strong depth in their squad, with players like Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon taking care of the left-back position.
On the contrary, the 30-year-old’s supposed move to Trabzonspor could create some additional space in the Tottenham squad. It might perhaps pave the way for Mourinho to make a late investment, with the Portuguese mastermind desperately requiring a young playmaker who can work as an understudy for the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.
As for the player himself, Rose is certainly a talented individual who has proven his quality in the Premier League for several years. Although he might be in the final phase of his career, a move to Trabzonspor certainly makes sense as the Englishman looks to team up with fellow countryman Lewis Baker and former Arsenal striker Benik Afobe.
Rose could provide some much-needed competition for Marlon at left-back. His versatility means that the 30-year-old can also be employed as a potential alternative for the injured midfield duo of Anders Trondsen and Abdulkadir Parmak. Trabzonspor are currently sixth in the Turkish League table, so it will be interesting to see whether the addition of Rose can help them move up the table and potentially secure European football next season.
