AS has recently reported that Real Madrid remain interested in recruiting Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga despite tying Luka Modric down to a new deal. It is believed that Los Blancos have identified the French midfielder as a long-term option who could learn a lot from veteran players like Modric and Toni Kroos before becoming a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons (via AS).
Camavinga’s Underwhelming Season In French Football
The Miconje-born prospect has experienced a lacklustre season at the Roazhon Park because of his lack of consistency in terms of his productivity in the final third. Camavinga has been involved in 19 matches for the French side this term, netting one goal and grabbing two assists in various competitions.
However, the 18-year-old has done well to influence the game at both ends of the pitch in Europe based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.3 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. He has also taken care of the ball when distributing it from midfield as evidenced by his pass success rate of 91% in European football (stats via whoscored).
The talented midfielder has the potential to become a generational talent as long as he can continue taking great strides towards improving himself in the years to come. However, for that to happen, Camavinga must ensure that he gets regular first-teams starts which Zinedine Zidane might not be able to guarantee him in the near future.
What Will The French Powerhouse Add To Zinedine Zidane’s Team?
The Rennes whizkid can be a dominant presence at the centre of the park as he can use his strong 1.82m frame to boss the midfield battle for his side. Camavinga can often overpower the opposition in the air and has got a great work-ethic to cover a lot of ground in midfield.
The French wonderkid has shown that he is capable of scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the attacking third but needs to be more consistent with his end-product if he wants to fulfil his true potential.
Camavinga will serve as an ideal long-term signing for Zidane as he has got all the right attributes to be a success story at the Spanish capital. He could learn a lot from the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kross before going on to establish a solid midfield partnership with Casemiro in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Los Blancos should try everything they can to get a deal over the line to bring Camavinga to the Bernabeu this month or at the end of this campaign.
