Chelsea will make the trip to the King Power Stadium midweek to square off against Leicester City. The Foxes are placed 2nd in the points table in comparison to Chelsea’s 7th place, but only six points separate the two sides. Chelsea are on their road to recovery from a sudden slump in form and have now registered two consecutive victories against Morecambe and Fulham.
Frank Lampard will be determined to return home from this fixture with all the three points in his bag as it will shape up the second half of the season in a very interesting fashion with the top seven teams within touching distance of each other. A victory will not be easy against the Foxes, and Lampard’s men will have to toil hard to earn the three points.
Chelsea will be making the trip to Leicester with a fully fit squad. It will be interesting to see if Lampard changes his winning combination from the last time out against Fulham. Here’s how Chelsea could take to the field for this Tuesday evening kick-off.
Chelsea Predicted Line-Up Against Leicester City
Defence
Mendy will take command between Chelsea’s sticks after being able to hold onto a clean-sheet in his last outing successfully. César Azpilicueta will continue to occupy the right-back position after a string of decent performances in recent times. Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are expected to be Frank Lampard’s desired centre back pairing in the heart of Chelsea’s defence. The two were steady and stable against Fulham, something that they will need to stick by when they are up against the likes of Maddison and Vardy (?) on Tuesday. Ben Chilwell will start on the left-hand side ahead of Emerson for the full-back slot.
Midfield
Jorginho is expected to retain his place in the starting eleven. The Brazilian will have Mount and Havertz on either side. Mount sealed the three points for Chelsea against Fulham with his brilliant shot on the volley inside the penalty area. Havertz could get a chance to appease the Stamford Bridge faithful in this fixture. The midfielder has been a bit on deliverables since his arrival in the summer but seems to be hitting the right gears lately. Lampard will obviously have Kovacic and Gilmour to make up the numbers on the bench.
Attack
Hakim Ziyech is expected to start on the right-hand side. The Moroccan footballer arrived at Chelsea in the summer after showing loads of promise at Ajax and is yet to get going at Chelsea fully. Frank Lampard would want his team well oiled and performance-ready with the business end of the season slowly approaching. Oliver Giroud will be occupying the number nine position ahead of summer recruit, Timo Werner. The last position up for grabs should be taken over by Christian Pulisic.
