In a recent segment of the Transfer Talk Show, Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie has revealed that Newcastle United are showing interest in recruiting Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury but will face competition from other clubs that are trying to sign the player on loan this month. Downie said,
“Bruce would also want a central midfielder – he’s not got legs in his midfield to get up and down the park, and I think we saw that against Arsenal.
“He’s interested in Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury, but again lots of interest from other clubs to bring him on loan. That one could go to the wire.”
Choudhury’s Recent Frustrations In English Football
Choudhury has been a sporadic presence at the King Power Stadium this season as he has failed to earn regular first-team starts under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage. The English midfield ace has featured in ten matches for the East Midlands outfit this term, scoring one goal in the process across all fronts.
The 23-year-old has found some joy with his performances in Europe where he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 0.7 shots per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League group stages. He has also distributed possession relatively well in midfield after completing 85.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
The lack of playing minutes has disrupted his progress at Leicester, so the player can benefit from sealing a move to another club either on loan or permanently before the January transfer window slams shut at the start of next month.
What Does The English Midfield Ace Bring To The Table?
Choudhury is a hard-working central midfielder who is quite aggressive with his challenges and can make some important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He is often quick to react to the danger and can pass the ball accurately in both halves of the field.
However, the Loughborough-born midfield ace needs to add a few goals and assists to his game if he wants to earn regular first-team starts at the highest level. Maybe a change of scenery could help him get his career back on track, so a move to Newcastle might be quite appealing to the player during the winter transfer period.
Will Choudhury Be A Decent Choice For The Magpies?
A player of Choudhury’s skillset will undoubtedly add more bite and steel to the Magpies midfield which could propel them to steer clear of the dreaded relegation zone in the second half of this campaign. Plus, he will provide some healthy competition for Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Matty Longstaff and Sean Longstaff for a place in Steve Bruce’s starting XI every week. All in all, Choudhury will be a decent choice for Newcastle to consider before the end of this month.
