Newcastle United locked horns with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier this evening looking to pull off an upset on the road in the third round of the FA Cup. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but cancelled each other out as they went into the half-time break all level on the scoreline.
The Tyneside outfit found chances at a premium in the second half but defended valiantly to get to the full-time whistle with a 0-0 draw. The Gunners finally managed to kill the game off in extra-time courtesy of two quick-fire goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The contest finished with Steve Bruce’s men suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss at the English capital which knocked them out of the FA Cup.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the clash versus the Gunners.
GK: Martin Dubravka – 7/10
The Newcastle keeper made some solid saves during the 90 minutes but won’t be happy after conceding two poor goals in extra-time.
RB: Emil Krafth – 6.5/10
He worked hard to keep a good defensive shape inside his half but struggled to influence the game in the final third. Krafth was subbed after the hour mark.
CB: Isaac Hayden – 6/10
Hayden was not shy of his clearing his lines when needed and also got stuck in with a few tackles as well.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6/10
The English defensive ace put his body on the line to block a couple of shots in the first half before getting substituted at half-time.

CB: Ciaran Clark – 5.5/10
Clark made some important clearances during the game but looked far from convincing in extra-time.
LB: Paul Dummett – 6.5/10
He maintained a solid shape defensively and did well to keep the Arsenal wide players frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.
RM: Miguel Almiron – 7/10
Almiron worked hard to help his teammates out at the back and was a decent threat in the opposition half.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6.5/10
The English midfield ace got stuck in with some well-timed tackles and was quite effective in disrupting Arsenal’s rhythm at the centre of the park.
CM: Jeff Hendrick – 6/10
He had a couple of shots at goal but struggled to create too many chances in the final third.
LM: Joelinton – 6/10
Joelinton did well to track back and defend when required. He had a couple of bright moments in the final third as well.
ST: Andy Carroll – 7.5/10
The English centre-forward had plenty of chances to find the back of the net but couldn’t take any of them. However, he deserves credit for being such a constant menace for the Arsenal defenders.
Substitutes:
RM: Matt Ritchie – 6.5/10
He engineered some decent opportunities for others around him after coming on at half-time.
CM: Jacob Murphy – 6/10
The English talent produced a good cameo, but it was not enough for his team to win this game.
CM: Elliot Anderson – 5/10
He struggled to get into the game.
RB: DeAndre Yedlin – 5/10
Yedlin offered very little on the pitch.
ST: Dwight Gayle – 5/10
Gayle didn’t get a sniff at goal.
