Arsenal continue their unbeaten streak in the Premier League following a goalless draw with Manchester United. It was a much more open game than the scoreline suggests, with both sides getting enough opportunities to find the breakthrough. Unfortunately, neither of the sides could make the most use of their chances, leading to a stalemate.
Arsenal Player Ratings Vs Manchester United
Bernd Leno 8/10
Bernd Leno made a crucial save early on in the game and another vital one, later on, to deny Edinson Cavani from close range. A valiant effort from the Arsenal goalkeeper and a deserved clean sheet as well.
Hector Bellerin 7/10
Hector Bellerin did a decent job on the right-hand side, providing a couple of crosses. He is way past his prime but deserves credit for his hard work in this game.
Rob Holding 7.5/10
Rob Holding continues to impress at centre-back as he put in another valiant defensive effort. His imposing presence at the back was key in minimising Manchester United’s attacking potential.
David Luiz 8.5/10
David Luiz was arguably the best player of the night for Arsenal. He admirably marshalled the backline, using his leadership and commitment to help his side retain a clean sheet. A true captain’s display.
Cedric Soares 7/10
Cedric Soares was in for a tough evening against Manchester United, especially in his unfavourable left-back position. However, the Portuguese international certainly did a decent job of minimising the influence of the wide attackers.
Thomas Partey 7/10
Thomas Partey once again showcased what he is capable of, particularly with his passing and ball-winning ability in the first half. Found it more difficult to dominate the game after the restart though.
Granit Xhaka 7.5/10
Granit Xhaka outshines Partey for the second game in a row. Although the Swiss international wasn’t as classy as his midfield partner in terms of passing, his aggression, passion and commitment were truly commendable.
Nicolas Pepe 6.5/10
Nicolas Pepe had his moments in the game but was largely defendable for the Manchester United defenders. The Ivorian could be a lethal player if he can work on his consistency and penetration going forward.
Emile Smith Rowe 6/10
Emil Smith Rowe tried to make things happen by running into spaces, but it never really clicked for him as he often got isolated. Understandable performance from a player of his age.
Gabriel Martinelli 5/10
Gabriel Martinelli failed to sparkle once again after being given a glorious opportunity on the left flank. He was largely quiet, failing to provide any sort of penetration going forward. Taken off at half-time for two consecutive games now.
Alexandre Lacazette 7.5/10
Alexandre Lacazette produced yet another top-class display, not necessarily in front of goal but in the first line of press. He was always willing to chase the ball and find the breakthrough, even though he didn’t find any.
SUBSTITUTES
Willian 6.5/10
Willian replaced Martinelli at the start of the second half and was surprisingly useful in the final third. He was more impactful than the youngster but should have scored.
Martin Odegaard N/A
Made his Arsenal debut coming on as a substitute for Smith Rowe in the 83rd minute. Couldn’t really involve himself on the proceedings.
Eddie Nketiah N/A
A late replacement for Lacazette, who picked up a nasty blow.
