Real Madrid have embarrassingly dropped points at home against Levante after being reduced to 10 men in the 8th minute of the game due to a clumsy challenge by Eder Militao. The Whites then took the lead in the 13th minute but failed to impose their authority further as the visitors came back from behind to score the winner in the last 15 minutes of the game.
Barcelona would be happy with this result and it will allow the Cules to make it even with Real Madrid on the Primera Division points table. The decisions from the officials were questionable on the night as VAR intervened on two occasions to make the evening tougher for the Whites.
Here’s how the Whites are rated in their poor display against Levante –
Real Madrid Player Ratings Against Levante
Real Madrid Player Ratings Against Levante
GK : Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The goalie made a pivotal penalty stop in the second half but it was not enough for his side on the day. Courtois would be disappointed with the two goals he conceded.
RB : Alvaro Odriozola – 7/10
The Spaniard was heavily involved in the game but failed to have any sort of significant impact on the fixture. Odriozola’s delivery in the final third was below the mark and he could have certainly done better in this department.
CB : Raphael Varane – 7/10
Varane put in a good shift with his partner for the night, Casemiro. The Frenchman tried to do everything in his powers to keep Madrid in the tie but it fell short at the end of the day.
CB : Eder Militao – 5/10
A poor night for Militao who was clumsy with his challenge early on in the game and left Real Madrid with only 10 men for over 80 minutes of the game. The Whites were left with a mountain to climb following the red card shown to Militao.
LB : Ferland Mendy – 6/10
Not a performance of Mendy’s standards by a long way. Nevertheless, the fullback did his job satisfactorily.
CM : Luka Modric – 7/10
The Croatian was unable to weave his magic on the field of play today and it reflected on the scoreline at the full-time whistle.
CM : Casemiro – 7/10
The Brazilian slotted into the centre back after Eder Militao was given the marching orders by the referee. Casemiro did a decent job in defence but picked up a yellow card for his troubles in the closing moments of the game.
CM : Toni Kroos – 7/10
The German seemed a bit short of ideas apart from the assist to Asensio in the first quarter of the game. The change in formation also meant that Toni Kroos had slightly more defensive duties to look after and it affected his game.
RW : Marco Asensio – 8/10
Scored the opening goal of the night for Real Madrid from a stunning Toni Kroos pass. Asensio made way for Sergio Arribas in the second half.
ST : Karim Benzema – 7/10
The striker was left isolated up front following the change in formation due to Militao’s red card. Benzema’s finishing on the night also seemed a bit off-color.
LW : Eden Hazard – 7/10
A very tame evening by Eden Hazard’s standards, especially after the stellar outing last weekend against Deportivo Alaves. Hazard made way for Vinicius Jr in the second half.
