Manchester United will play hosts to Sheffield United at the Old Trafford on Wednesday night hoping to pick up a win and continue their brilliant run of form in the Premier League. The Red Devils managed to secure a wondrous comeback on Sunday as they emerged victorious over Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup. On the other hand, the Blades won 2-1 over League One side Plymouth Argyle.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a number of tweaks from the last game. Nemanja Matic might get the nod over Scott McTominay whereas Anthony Martial looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Sheffield United
Defence
David de Gea should replace Dean Henderson in between the sticks for the upcoming home encounter. Having conceded just two goals in his last five matches, the Spanish shot-stopper will be determined to put up another strong performance on Wednesday.
Victor Lindelof will form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline. The duo had some nervy moments against Klopp’s men; however, they’ll be hoping to secure a clean sheet this time.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position whereas Luke Shaw will continue to fill in on the other flank, as the left-back.
Midfield
As mentioned earlier, Nemanja Matic might replace Scott McTominay in the holding midfield position to bring the much-needed defensive coverage to United’s ‘back-four’. Paul Pogba will start in the central midfield position, hoping to add to his streak of fine performances against the Blades.
Having played just 24 minutes against the Reds, Bruno Fernandes will be raring to go into the midweek clash. The Portuguese playmaker left the fans in awe as he converted from a set-piece situation to score the winning goal against Liverpool.
He’ll be accompanied by Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood on either side, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.
Marcus Rashford remains a concern ahead of the midweek clash as he limped off the pitch in the closing moments of the 3-2 victory over Liverpool.
“His knee was bothering him. So a scan tomorrow and we’ll see where we are.” – Solskjaer revealed in the post-match press conference.
Donny van de Beek might have to settle for a place on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the game if called upon.
Attack
Edinson Cavani will lead the line for the home side against Sheffield United. The Uruguayan striker has shown some tremendous work-rate lately and will be eager to get his name on the scoresheet against Chris Wilder’s men.
