Manchester United entertained Manchester City at Old Trafford earlier tonight looking to earn a win and book a place in the final of the EFL Cup. Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half and went into the half-time interval with nothing to show for their efforts.
The Red Devils made a sloppy start to the second half as they conceded a poor own in the 50th minute when John Stones scored from close range. Fernandinho killed the game off in the 83rd minute after finding the back of the net with a stunning volley as the contest ended with Man United suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the clash against Man City.
GK: Dean Henderson – 6/10
Henderson made a couple of saves but ended up conceding two goals tonight which won’t make him happy.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10
The ex-Crystal Palace talent was not shy of making a tackle and also pulled off some important clearances for his side. However, he struggled to influence the game in the opposition half.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6/10
Lindelof did well to clear his lines when needed and was quite accurate with his ball-distribution. However, he will be disappointed after allowing a couple of goals during the game.
CB: Harry Maguire – 6.5/10
Maguire tried his best to keep the Man City attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes. However, all of his good work defensively were not enough in the end.
LB: Luke Shaw – 5/10
The Man United left-back created just one good chance during the game, which is just not good enough. He stood his ground in defence but gave away some cheap fouls and got cautioned as well.
CM: Fred – 6.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace worked hard to help his teammates out at the back and made a couple of decent runs going forward. However, he ran out of gas and got replaced before the end of the game.
CDM: Scott McTominay – 6/10
He tried his best to provide adequate protection for the backline but gave away some needless freekicks due to his aggression.
CM: Paul Pogba – 6.5/10
The Frenchman worked hard to help out in defence when needed and had some promising moments in the opposition half. However, it was still far from a convincing performance from him tonight.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
The Portuguese playmaker was not afraid to have a shot at goal but won’t be satisfied after failing to get his name on the scoresheet.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 6.5/10
Rashford hardly got a chance to register a goal but his pace caused some problems for the Man City defenders.
ST: Anthony Martial – 6/10
The French attacker showed a couple of flashes of what he is capable of but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
Substitutes:
RW: Mason Greenwood – 6/10
Greenwood made a good run after coming off the bench, but it was not enough.
CAM: Donny van de Beek – N/A
He didn’t have enough time to make an impact.
