Leeds United faced off against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this afternoon looking to pick a result away from home. The Whites began the game well but conceded a penalty in the 29th minute which Harry Kane converted to put Spurs ahead on the day. Son Heung-min doubled his team’s advantage just two minutes before the half-time break to put Tottenham in a commanding position heading into the second 45 minutes.
Toby Alderweireld killed the game off when he found the back of the net in the 50th minute. It was damage limitation for Leeds in the remainder of the contest as they ended up losing the match by a 3-0 scoreline at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Leeds player performed during the clash against Spurs.
GK: Illan Meslier – 6.5/10
Meslier made some important saves to keep the scoreline down but won’t be happy after shipping in three goals today.
RB: Stuart Dallas – 6/10
The English right-back didn’t do too much wrong defensively inside his half but struggled to create anything of note in the opposition half.
CB: Luke Ayling – 6/10
He made a couple of crucial interceptions, but his all-around performance at the heart of Marcelo Bielsa’s defence left a lot to be desired.
CB: Pascal Struijk – 6.5/10
Struijk was always willing to go in for tackles to earn possession back for his side. However, his contributions were not enough in the end as Leeds ended up letting in three poor goals during the game.
LB: Ezgjan Alioski – 5/10
Alioski gave away a costly penalty in the 29th minute which gave Spurs the initiative to go and snatch the win. However, he was a threat in the opposition half in the first half but ran out of gas and was replaced after the hour mark.
CDM: Kalvin Phillips – 7/10
He made multiple tackles during the contest to come away with the ball and did well to stop a lot of Tottenham’s attacks in the second half. However, the damage was already done by that point.
CM: Rodrigo – 6/10
Rodrigo was not afraid to have a strike at goal and had a few bright moments before being subbed in the second half.
CM: Mateusz Klich – 6/10
Klich was responsible for engineering a few decent opportunities in the offensive end of the field. However, he didn’t do enough work to help his teammates at the back.
LM: Jack Harrison – 6/10
The English winger worked hard to stop Steven Bergwijn and Matt Doherty from getting forward. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
RM: Raphinha – 7.5/10
The Brazilian winger was not shy of helping out in defence and was a constant menace for the Spurs defenders throughout the 90 minutes. He orchestrated some decent chances for his teammates and made a couple of driving runs with the ball as well.
ST: Patrick Bamford – 6.5/10
Bamford had plenty of chances to find the back of the net but did not have his shooting boots on. However, he deserves credit for being such a potent goal-threat during the 90 minutes.
Substitutes:
LM: Ian Poveda – 5/10
Poveda struggled to make an impact after coming on for the final 30 minutes.
CM: Pablo Hernandez – 6.5/10
The Spaniard added some energy and dynamism to the Leeds midfield.
CM: Jamie Shackleton – 6/10
He got stuck in with a few tackles after coming off the bench.
