In a recent report, the Daily Mail has mentioned about Bournemouth’s interest in Leeds United youngster Tyler Roberts who has slipped down the pecking order in West Yorkshire following the summer arrival of Rodrigo and Raphinha. However, they are weighing up a winter move for yet another attacking ace with Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez, PSG star Julian Draxler and Demarai Gray from Leicester City being in the wishlist among an array of targets.
Why Leeds Must Allow Roberts To Leave On Temporary Terms
The Cherries are aiming for an immediate Premier League return after going down last season but, at the same time, expecting January bids for Josh King and David Brooks. The race is quite tight at the top of the Championship standings and Roberts, the 21-year-old Wales international, would be a welcome addition for the Dorset-based outfit.
He played a sporadic yet crucial role in Leeds’ promotion and his experience in the division should see him flourish furthermore with regular game-time ahead of the upcoming European Championship.
Marcelo Bielsa has only handed him a couple of league starts so far this campaign and the young attacker was found representing the reserves on quite a few occasions. A loan move to Bournemouth would be ideal for all parties involved as his versatility and the ability to feature across the frontline would inject more firepower upfront.
Does Bielsa Require Further Attacking Reinforcements?
Leeds, meanwhile, are keen on one more attacking inclusion despite having the likes of Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa, Raphinha, Ian Poveda and Rodrigo in their ranks. Scoring goals would rarely be a problem for the iconic Argentine, however, the frailty at the back has often been criticized for the lack of depth as well as the high-energy and high-pressing style. They are indeed a treat to watch, but the over-enthusiastic approach often leaves a lot of space behind. Erroneous and high-risk passing lead to trouble, also the tiredness in closing minutes hand the opponents an advantage in cagey contests.
Although the Whites should be safe in terms of retaining their Premier League existence, adding another wide attacker does not make sense considering the injury woes in the deep defensive line. Liam Cooper, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Gaetano Berardi are sidelined with their respective problems and the gaffer was forced to deploy one attacking fullback and a rookie defensive midfielder (read Luke Ayling and Pascal Struijk) as centre-back pairing against Tottenham Hotspur.
This needs to be addressed to attain top-flight stability and the club should opt for a defender instead of roping in another winger to resolve the ongoing crisis.
