Premier League giants Chelsea lost yet another game in the Premier League as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of a rampant Manchester City side. The Citizens put up quite a sensational performance over the course of that tie, and this was despite Chelsea starting the game off quite strongly. The visitors scored three times within the first-half, against what was undoubtedly a shell-shocked Chelsea back-line. N’Golo Kante was completely off the pace, and nothing Chelsea tried seemed to come off. Serious questions now have to be asked about the tactics that Lampard is employing, as the poor run of league form continues on.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Manchester City:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Manchester City
Edouard Mendy – 5
The Senegalese international goalkeeper could’ve done a better job for the first two goals, but he sort of made up for it in the second half. Showed good bravery to collect the ball.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 4.5
The skipper struggled to get into the game in an attacking sense, and he was continuously being overrun by Phil Foden down that flank. Didn’t defend particularly well during that tie either.
Kurt Zouma – 5
The big Frenchman was far from his best in the heart of defence tonight, as he was beaten far too easily on multiple occasions. Did make the odd last-ditch tackle but looked rather suspect overall.
Thiago Silva – 5.5
Although Silva did a better job than his partner, he too was given a torrid time by the powerful running of Raheem Sterling. His lack of pace is gradually becoming a real issue.
Ben Chilwell – 5.5
The Englishman spent a majority of the fixture in the City half, and this meant that whenever the visitors broke, Sterling had acres of space to run into. Linked up play and didn’t do too badly.
N’Golo Kante – 3
The World Cup winner put up what was undoubtedly his worst performance in a long time as he struggled to deal with the City attackers. Many loose passes and far too negative.
Mateo Kovacic – 5.5
The Croatian international midfielder had a couple of mazy runs down the heart of the City side but wasn’t able to produce any end product. Played some good forward passes too.
Mason Mount – 6
The Englishman wasn’t the worst player on the pitch, but he needs to offer more penetration in the final third. Tried to inject some pace into Chelsea’s play and linked up well with Chilwell.
Hakim Ziyech – 6
The Moroccan didn’t play badly by any stretch and his passing and movement in the final third were better than most. Was taken off at half-time, possibly as a precaution for injury.
Timo Werner – 5.5
This was arguably one of the German’s better performances over the last few weeks as his touches seemed to be a lot more secure. Picked up some good areas but wasn’t able to have an impact.
Christian Pulisic – 6
The American looked the player likeliest to create something in attack for Chelsea, but like the rest of the team, not a lot of the things he tried came off. Showed good desire though.
Substitutes
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6
Immediately improved the Chelsea team after coming on and his pace and directness led to a consolation goal. Needs to be given more opportunities if he is to perform at this high level.
Billy Gilmour – 5.5
The Scot didn’t do too much wrong in the middle of the park and sprung some decent passes around as well. Looked a lot better than Kante from the moment he entered the mix.
Kai Havertz – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
