Manchester United will clash heads with Burnley at the Turf Moor on Wednesday night as the teams look set to resume their Premier League campaign. Having won their last matches against Watford and MK Dons respectively in the FA Cup, both sides will be heading into the game in high spirits; however, a win for United would put them at the top of the points table.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with numerous tweaks from the cup tie. Marcus Rashford might get the nod over Daniel James whereas Bruno Fernandes looks likely to make his way back into the starting XI.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Burnley
Defence
David de Gea will replace Dean Henderson to feature in between the sticks for the visitors. The Spanish shot-stopper will be hoping to pick up from where he left off last time as he made some brilliant saves to deny Dean Smith’s men from finding the back of the net.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left sweating over the fitness of centre-backs Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. While the former missed the win against the Hornets through injury, the latter was taken off after a nasty collision with Dean Henderson just before the half-time whistle. However, the Ivorian defender is expected to start alongside skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline as his substitution seemed to be a precautionary measure.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will replace Brandon Williams at the right-back spot whereas Alex Telles should retain his place on the other flank, as the left-back.
Midfield
Fred is expected to partner Scott McTominay at the centre of the park. The duo has been of great defensive importance to Solskjaer this far and should be given starts if fully fit.
Bruno Fernandes will start as the attacking midfielder against Burnley. The Portuguese playmaker has been in blistering form lately, and he would be determined to engineer some decent goal-scoring chances for his teammates.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood will take up the wide positions, looking to use their pace and directness to breeze past Sean Dyche’s defence.
Paul Pogba remains a concern ahead of the midweek clash whereas van de Beek will have to settle for a place on the bench.
Attack
Anthony Martial will lead the line for the visitors on Wednesday. The Frenchman has been quite wasteful in front of the goal this season, so he’ll be eager to put up a strong performance against the Clarets.
Edinson Cavani might be brought off the bench in the latter stages of the game if needed.
