Everton entertained West Ham United at Goodison Park earlier this evening hoping to secure a positive result at home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but failed to find the cutting edge in the final third as they went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
The Merseyside outfit tried their best to make the decisive breakthrough in the second half but ended up conceding a late goal when Tomas Soucek found the back of the net in the 86th minute. The Toffees couldn’t manage to come up with a response as they lost the game by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the clash against the Hammers.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The Everton keeper made some important saves but won’t be happy after conceding such a late goal in the game.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
Coleman was defensively strong and made a good chance in the opposition half. However, it was a far from convincing performance from him today.
CB: Yerry Mina – 7/10
He was not shy of clearing his lines when needed and also made a couple of crucial tackles during the match.
CB: Mason Holgate – 7/10
Holgate pulled off several essential clearances for his team and was a rock at the heart of Ancelotti’s defence. However, he will be gutted after shipping in a goal in the 86th minute.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
He didn’t do too much wrong when defending inside his half but failed to influence the game in the West Ham half.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6.5/10
He made quite a few essential interceptions in midfield but struggled to create anything of note on the offensive end of the field.
CM: Tom Davies – 7/10
Davies was full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He also worked hard in providing adequate protection for his teammates at the back.
RW: Bernard – 6/10
He had a few bright moments during the game but ran out of energy and got replaced after the hour mark.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5.5/10
The Icelandic international was mostly a spectator in the first half and didn’t do any better in the second. Ancelotti decided to sub him out in the 63rd minute.
LW: Richarlison – 6/10
Richarlison had a couple of promising instances during the 90 minutes but never looked like he had a goal in him.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
The English striker had two attempts at goal but failed to test the keeper with either of his efforts. He will be hoping for more productive days in the coming weeks.
Substitutes:
RW: James Rodriguez – 5/10
Rodriguez struggled to make an impact and was sloppy when in possession of the ball.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6/10
He added some energy to the Toffees midfield.
ST: Cenk Tosun – 6/10
Tosun was Carlo Ancelotti’s last throw of the dice.
