Everton entertained Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park earlier tonight as they looked to secure a victory at home and progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Toffees made a dominant start to the game and took the lead in the 29th minute via Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal. The Merseyside club held on to their narrow advantage and went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men kept pushing in the hopes of killing the game off in the second 45 minutes. Richarlison doubled his team’s advantage close to the hour mark before Yerry Mina put daylight between the two teams with his goal in the 62nd minute. The contest ended with the Merseyside outfit earning an impressive 3-0 win which ensured their place in the next round of the FA Cup.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the clash against the Owls.
GK: Robin Olsen – 7/10
The Toffees keeper was hardly troubled during the game but made a few saves to secure a comfortable clean sheet tonight.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 7.5/10
Coleman didn’t put a foot wrong in defence and was a decent outlet for Everton in the opposition half. Ancelotti will be quite pleased with his performance.
CB: Yerry Mina – 7.5/10
The Everton centre-back didn’t have to do too much defending and was good enough to earn the win with the clean sheet intact. Mina also got his name on the scoresheet in the second half.
CB: Mason Holgate – 7/10
He read the danger quickly and made some important clearances at the back. Holgate was not shy to put his body on the line to help his team restrict the Owls from finding the back of the net.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 7/10
The English defensive ace maintained a solid shape inside his half and also had a couple of shots at goal.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7/10
Doucoure got stuck in with a few tackles and even engineered some decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
CM: Andre Gomes – 7/10
The Portuguese sensation had a quiet game at the centre of the park but did well to pick up an assist before being subbed in the 84th minute.
RW: James Rodriguez – 8.5/10
Rodriguez created all sorts of problems for the Sheffield Wednesday defenders. He was responsible for orchestrating plenty of goal-scoring opportunities in the attacking third and secured two assists during his time on the pitch.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7/10
The Icelandic international had a couple of shots but never looked like he had a goal in him. He also made some decent plays for others around him.
LW: Richarlison – 8/10
Richarlison scored the decisive second goal and was a constant nuisance for the Owls defenders throughout the 90 minutes.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7.5/10
The Everton centre-forward opened the goal-scoring in the 29th minute. However, he should have scored a few more but missed some promising chances during the game.
Substitutes:
LW: Bernard – 6/10
He didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
LB: Jonjoe Kenny – 6/10
Kenny did well to see out the three points with the clean sheet intact.

The youngster struggled to influence the game.
LB: Thierry Small – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
