In a recent report, ESPN has claimed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on AS Monaco youngster Aurélien Tchouaméni. It is believed that the Blues are monitoring the development of the French midfielder despite the uncertainty surrounding Frank Lampard’s future as the manager of the club (via ESPN).
Tchouaméni’s Solid Season At Monaco Thus Far
Tchouaméni has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Stade Louis II after producing a run of eye-catching performances at the centre of Niko Kovac’s midfield. The Rouen-born prospect has already featured in 19 matches for the French outfit this term, picking up two assists in the Ligue 1.
The French starlet has given a good account of himself in both halves as he is averaging 2.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.4 shots and 0.5 dribbles per game in the French top-flight. He has also distributed the ball relatively well from midfield as evidenced by his pass success rate of 82.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The 20-year-old is currently one of the most promising young players in French football, so he would be a major coup for the Blues if they end up acquiring his services before the end of this month or next summer. Tchouaméni has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, it is no surprise that Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on his progress in the Ligue 1 this season.
What Will The French Midfielder Bring To Stamford Bridge?
Tchouaméni is a multi-purpose midfielder as he can contribute by doing a little of everything at the centre of the park. He can use his strong 1.85m frame to overpower the opposition and win some aerial duels in midfield. The ex-Bordeaux player is primarily a defensive midfielder but has got the energy to play in a box to box role if needed.
The Frenchman is often quick to respond to the danger and has the tenacity to earn the ball back for his side. He is also not shy about having a shot at goal and pick up the odd assist every now and then. However, Tchouaméni is still quite raw and would need time to adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Chelsea can find a way to get a deal done for him in the future.
At 20, the French whizkid will only get better with each season, so he will be great long-term signing for the west London giants. Tchouaméni could also serve as a future successor to his countryman N’Golo Kane at Stamford Bridge. Hence, it makes sense for the Blues to orchestrate a move to lure the promising youngster to the English capital soon.
