In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Premier League striker Darren Bent urged Everton to make a loan-to-buy offer for Bayern Munich forward Joshua Zirkzee after the Daily Mail revealed earlier this month that the Toffees were keen on signing the Dutch striker. Bent said, “Obviously, I think they need someone to push Calvert-Lewin, they need someone to push him and just keep him on his toes because sometimes you get a bit too comfortable.
“When you’re the main man scoring goals, and you know full well, regardless of what kind of form you’re in, that you’re still going to play, you can kind of sit back a little bit.
“I think Calvert-Lewin, he’s young, he’s hungry and I’m all for a little bit of squad competition, that’s how your squad gets better by having goalscoring competition.
“Ancelotti, I like what they’re doing and if they do go and sign the young centre-forward (Zirkzee), hopefully, he can step up and give Calvert-Lewin a bit of competition.”
Zirkzee’s Growing Frustrations In The Bundesliga This Season
It has been a frustrating campaign for Zirkzee as he has found game time hard to come by at the Allianz Arena this season due to Robert Lewandowski’s excellent form in front of goal. The 19-year-old has participated in 17 senior matches for the German giants thus far, netting four goals and earning one assist in the process on all fronts.
The talented teenager is still waiting to open his goal-scoring account for this campaign, so he needs to switch clubs on loan or permanently before the end of this month in search of more game time in the second half of this campaign. Hence, a loan move to Everton could be an attractive move for the Dutch player to consider if Carlo Ancelotti decides to push for a deal to bring him to Goodison Park during this January transfer period.
What Will The Bayern Youngster Bring To The Table?
Zirkzee proved his worth as a prolific goal-scorer during his youth career with the Bavarian giants over the past few years. He can use his strong 1.93m frame to overpower his marker and win some important aerial duels for his team deep inside the opposition half.
The Dutch forward can make some quick turns to get a few shots in at goal but is still quite inexperienced at the top level. Hence, recruiting Zirkzee permanently this month could be a huge gamble for Ancelotti, especially after Moise Kean’s disappointing spell at Merseyside.
Is Zirkzee The Right Fit For The Toffees?
The Toffees will be better off making a loan move for the Dutch prospect with a view of making the transfer permanent at the end of this campaign. Zirkzee is an exceptional young striker who could potentially grow into a world-class player if Ancelotti can offer him a nurturing environment at Goodison Park in the years to come. All in all, the Bundesliga whizkid will be a great fit for Everton as he will add some healthy competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin right now and could even be a regular starter for the Merseyside club in the long-run.
