Bottom of the table Motherwell hosted league leaders Rangers this afternoon at Fir Park and the unbeaten Gers managed to avoid an upset when super-sub Cedric Itten scored a second-half equalizer.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their 1-1 draw against Motherwell.
Allan McGregor: 6.5
Could have done little to deny Devante Cole’s tap in from a close range. Was forced to make a couple of saves in the first half but was confident with the ball on his feet and composed while distributing under pressure.
James Tavernier: 6.5
Kept on making marauding runs from the right-hand flank as his cut insides, crosses and persistent presence in and around the box kept the hosts’ on their toes. Could have done a bit better to block and close down the Motherwell move that led to Cole’s first-half opener.
Connor Goldson: 7
Should have done a lot better defensively to stop Tony Watt’s cross but was effective otherwise while surging forward and switching the game on the wide. Came close to firing in with a thumping header, but the potential equaliser was denied by Cole who cleared it off the line.
Leon Balogun: 7
Defended well even though the home side did not threaten enough since finding the back of the net in the first half. Dominated physically while also maintaining accuracy with his passing out from the back.
Borna Barisic: 7.5
Combined well with Ryan Kent from the left-hand flank and kept on whipping in crosses inside the six-yard box. Got rewarded eventually when Cedric Itten headed home to rescue a point midway through the second half.
Steven Davis: 7
Dominated the game centrally as he was winning the ball back and setting it up for his teammates to form attacking moves from in and around the Motherwell half. Completed the most number of passes (93, stats via Fotmob) which showed his expertise in orchestrating the show from the middle of the park.
Glen Kamara: 6.5
Was industrious with timely recoveries and tackles. Retained possession and his holding play allowed the likes of Aribo, Kent and Barisic to have free runs to utilise the space in the attacking third.
Joe Aribo: 6
Was lively from behind the front trio. Tried to make a difference with his creative moves, passes and through balls. The final delivery could have been better on a few occasions.
Ianis Hagi: 6
Had an early chance in the second half, but he hit the volley wide. Linked up with his fellow attackers with direct runs but lost the unpredictability in his play later on before being replaced by Cedric Itten 10 minutes into the second half.
Ryan Kent: 6
Forced Liam Kelly to make a save minutes after the break and tried making things happen from the left flank with his dribbles, one-twos and crosses. Made way for Brandon Barker moments before the final whistle.
Alfredo Morelos: 6
His brace against Aberdeen made all the difference last week at Pittodrie, but the Colombian failed to test Kelly at all this afternoon before making way for Jermain Defoe late into the match.
Rangers Subs against Motherwell
Cedric Itten: 7.5
The Bears’ ‘Super Sub’ headed home from Barisic’s cross and maintained his side’s unbeaten league run around the 72nd-minute mark.
Jermain Defoe: NA
Could have bagged all three points, but his late strike was denied by Kelly in Motherwell goal.
Brandon Barker: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
