Real Madrid have delivered a thoroughly professional performance at the Alfredo de Stefano Stadium in Madrid against Celta Vigo and have wrapped up the three points on offer. Lucas Vasquez and Marco Asensio scored in each half as Los Blancos emerged victorious by two goals to nil.
The Whites have moved to the top of the Primera Division table momentarily with 36 points to their credit. The fixture showed how well oiled this Real Madrid side is as they outclassed Celta in all departments of the game. The Whites pressed high up the pitch, and it caused all sorts of trouble for Eduardo Coudet’s team.
The pairing of Marco Asensio and Lucas Vasquez combined on two occasions to get on the scoresheet and give Los Blancos a commanding grip over the fixture. Vasquez scored the opener in the 6th minute, and Marco Asensio found the back of the net after the restart of play in the second half.
Here’s how Real Madrid players were rated from their 2-0 victory at home to Celta Vigo.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8/10
The Belgian was right on top of his game and was always on his heels. Courtois made a couple of decisive saves in the second half of the match.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 7/10
Carvajal was pressing high up the pitch along with his other teammates, and the team effort really paid off. Carvajal had things under control down the right-hand side. An assertive performance from the Spaniard after a poor display against Elche.
CB: Raphael Varane – 7/10
The French defender was impermeable on the night and barely seemed to place a foot wrong. Varane made a few pivotal interventions in defence.
CB: Nacho – 8/10
Nacho did a phenomenal job deputising for Sergio Ramos. The versatile defender made a stunning last-ditch tackle in the dying minutes of the game.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 6/10
Ferland Mendy was brought back into the side to replace Marcelo who seemed like a defensive liability midweek. However, the Frenchman did not really shake things down the right-hand side and seemed like a weak link for the perfectly functioning Real Madrid team.
CM: Luka Modric – 9/10
Absolutely magical from Luka Modric against Celta. The Croatian wizard is in the form of his life. Celta were continuously chasing shadows with Luka Modric on the ball.
CM: Casemiro – 7/10
A satisfactory performance from Casemiro who got his work done with relative ease.
CM: Toni Kroos – 8/10
The fewer words used to describe this performance, the sweeter. Toni Kroos was breathtaking to watch on the night as he sprayed balls across the pitch with pinpoint accuracy.
RW: Lucas Vasquez – 9/10
An absolutely deserving player to win the Man of the Match title following his goal and assist on the night. Vasquez also provided ample support at the back as he dropped deep to help out in defence.
ST: Karim Benzema – 7/10
Benzema had a quiet evening by his standards and would be certainly gutted about not being on the scoresheet as a chance went begging in the last few minutes of the fixture.
LW: Marco Asensio – 9/10
Asensio opened his account for the season on Matchday 17 and Zidane would be absolutely delighted with it. Marco neatly finished from close range after Lucas Vasquez played the ball to him.
