In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has mentioned that AC Milan are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori during the January transfer window. Romano has also revealed that the Blues centre-back is open to a loan move to the San Siro but the Milan giants will only go in for him if they miss out on Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan.
New chance for Fikayo Tomori: AC Milan have contacted Chelsea for the English centre back. Tomori would accept the destination. 🔵 #cfc
…but the main target for Milan is still Mohamed Simakan [Strasbourg]. Only if the deal will collapse, Tomori would be the option. 🔴 #acmilan

Tomori’s Career At West London Has Come To A Halt
It has been a season of frustrations for Tomori so far as he has failed to secure enough game time under the stewardship of Frank Lampard in recent months. The English centre-half has only featured in four matches for the Blues this term, receiving a total of 234 minutes of game time in all competitions.
The 23-year-old played a far more prominent role in the previous campaign when he participated in 22 matches, registering two goals and one assist on all fronts. He also averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.8 clearances, 0.5 shots and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League last season. Tomori even distributed possession relatively well out from the back as evident from his pass completion rate of 87.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The English defensive ace is in dire need to secure regular first-team football and for that to happen, he needs to seek a loan move elsewhere in the hopes of finding some form at the highest level. If Tomori joins AC Milan, then he could stand a chance of securing some silverware as the Italian club are sitting in pole position in the Serie A title race.
What Does The England International Offer On The Pitch?
Tomori has got the pace to track back and defend when he is caught out of position and showed good defensive awareness to make some crucial interceptions and last-ditch clearances for his side last season. He can use his strong 1.83m frame to outjump the opposition in the air but can sometimes struggle to find his sharpness which can make him a liability on the pitch.
At 23, the English centre-back still has plenty of time to hone his skills and become a top-class defender at Stamford Bridge. Hence, he could benefit from sealing a loan move to Italy where he might have a better shot of earning regular playing minutes week in week out in the second half of this season.
Tomori’s Loan Move To AC Milan: Good Move For All Parties?
The San Siro outfit will be getting a quality defender if they decide to bring Tomori in on loan during this winter transfer window. Chelsea need to ship some of their fringe players like Tomori out on loan this month with the hope that the English talent can come back as a much-improved version of himself at the end of this campaign. With all things considered, it seems like a good move for everyone involved if Tomori earns some loan experience at Milan in the coming months.
