Chelsea will entertain Morecambe at Stamford Bridge hoping to pick up a positive result on Sunday afternoon and secure progression into the next round of the FA Cup. The Blues have lost two of their last three matches, so they will be eager to produce a good performance versus the League Two outfit this weekend.
Frank Lampard will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make a whole host of changes to his team for this cup clash at West London. Antonio Rüdiger, Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud could be named in Chelsea’s first XI as they get a chance to give a good account of themselves in the FA Cup.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Morecambe
Defence
Edouard Mendy will retain his spot in goal for the London giants after shipping in three goals versus Manchester City in his last outing. Kurt Zouma could resume his defensive partnership with Antonio Rüdiger at the heart of the Chelsea backline as they look to keep the Morecambe attackers at bay during the game.
Cesar Azpilicueta will feature as the right-back while Emerson Palmieri could get the nod to play at left-back. Lampard will give both of them the license to get forward and orchestrate a few decent chances for their teammates inside the opponent’s penalty area.
Thiago Silva could rest his legs on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-back positions.
Midfield
The Chelsea midfield will be comprised of Billy Gilmour, Jorginho and Kai Havertz as Lampard looks to rest the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount on the bench after their heavy involvement recently.
Havertz needs to have a good game to build his confidence up ahead of the second half of this campaign. The German talent will be given the freedom to operate as an attack-minded, box to box midfielder in this cup game, so he will be a player to keep an eye on this weekend.
Attack
Christian Pulisic will look to impress on the left-wing while Callum Hudson-Odoi focusses on using his pace on the other flank as the right-sided wide player. Lampard might put his faith on Olivier Giroud to bang in some goals as the centre-forward up top.
Tammy Abraham will have to be content with a place on the bench but could come on to make an impact in the second half if needed.
