Newcastle United will lock horns with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Magpies suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss (after extra-time) versus Arsenal in the FA Cup last Saturday, so they will be desperate to put on a much-improved performance against the Blades in midweek.
Steve Bruce will set his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to revert to his strongest team for this contest on the road. Callum Wilson will be nailed-on to lead the charge for the Tyneside giants up top at Andy Carroll’s expense, who will drop to the bench.
4-2-3-1 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Sheffield United
Defence
Karl Darlow will operate in goal for the Magpies after being rested against the Gunners on Saturday. Fabian Schar will function along with Federico Fernandez at the heart of Bruce’s defence as they look to keep things tidy at the back in midweek.
DeAndre Yedlin will be a guaranteed starter at right-back while Matt Ritchie fills in on the other flank as a makeshift left-back. Bruce will instruct both of them to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack and deliver some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box.
Jamal Lewis is a slight concern for this game as he will be in a race against time to be fit for this away encounter in the Premier League.
Midfield
Matty Longstaff is expected to lineup alongside Isaac Hayden as they try to dominate the battle at the centre of the park while featuring as the holding midfielders. The trio of Joelinton, Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron will play just ahead of them as part of the Magpies attack.
Jeff Hendrick and Jacob Murphy will make up the numbers on the bench and could come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Attack
Callum Wilson will spearhead the Newcastle attack up top. The English marksman got a well-deserved rest on Saturday, so he will be fresh and raring to go heading into this contest away at South Yorkshire in midweek.
Andy Carroll will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he waits for his chance to impress as a second-half substitute if Bruce decides to use his services.
