West Ham United locked horns with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight looking to get something out of this highly anticipated London derby. The Hammers made a bright start to the game but suffered an early set-back as they allowed Thiago Silva to score from a corner with a powerful header in the tenth minute. David Moyes’ men kept themselves in the game and went into the half-time interval one goal down and with a lot of work to do in the second half.
The East London outfit created several good chances to equalise but were toothless in the final third. Tammy Abraham scored two quick-fire goals for Chelsea in the final quarter of the match which sealed the three points for the home side. The contest ended with West Ham suffering a disappointing 3-0 loss at West London.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the game against the Blues.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Hammers keeper made some important saves to keep the scoreline down, but he won’t be happy after conceding three goals tonight.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
Coufal was defensively solid and engineered a couple of decent chances for his teammates to score. He did well to keep Timo Werner quiet for major periods of the game.
CB: Fabian Balbuena – 6/10
He made some important clearances during the 90 minutes but failed to keep Abraham in check in the latter stages of the contest.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 5/10
It was a far from a convincing performance from him tonight. He failed to cut off the danger and ended up letting in three poor goals during the game, which won’t please David Moyes.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 5/10
Cresswell produced a lacklustre display inside his half and was at fault for playing Abraham on-side in the lead-up to Chelsea’s second goal.
CM: Declan Rice – 5/10
The English midfield ace was unfortunate to see his goal get chalked off as off-side in the first half. He passed the ball well but struggled to cope with the fast Chelsea counter-attacks.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 5.5/10
Soucek worked hard and gave a good account of himself when protecting his teammates at the back. However, he failed to orchestrate anything of note in the opposition half.
LW: Pablo Fornals – 5/10
The Spaniard had a quiet game during his time on the field. He ran out of gas and was replaced after the hour mark.
CAM: Mark Noble – 6/10
The English veteran put in another tireless shift and dropped deep quite often to help his teammates out at the back. However, he never looked like he had a goal or an assist in him.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 7/10
Bowen looked like the only one who could make a difference for West Ham in the final third. He showed great hunger to chase down any loose possession in the opposition half but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third.
ST: Sebastien Haller – 6/10
The two-time Ivory Coast international won a lot of aerial duels but didn’t have a shot during the game. He lacks confidence, and it showed in his performance tonight.
Substitutes:
LW: Said Benrahma – 5/10
He came on and squandered a good chance to equalise.
