West Ham United entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at the London Stadium earlier this afternoon hoping to register a home win in the Premier League. The Hammers were completely outplayed in the first half and conceded the opening goal in the 44th minute when Neal Maupay broke the deadlock for the Seagulls.
The East London outfit made a bright start to the second 45 minutes and found the equaliser courtesy of Ben Johnson’s goal at the hour mark. Ten minutes later, the visitors went ahead once again when Lewis Dunk scored from close range. However, Tomas Soucek scored the leveller with his header from point-blank range which salvaged a point for the Hammers. The match ended with both teams playing out a 2-2 draw at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the contest against the Seagulls.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 5/10
The West Ham keeper was sloppy with his ball-distribution out from the back and won’t be happy after allowing two goals during the 90 minutes.
CB: Fabian Balbuena – 7/10
Balbuena was a commanding presence inside his penalty box and dealt with the danger when needed. However, his contributions weren’t enough as the Hammers still ended up conceding two poor goals today.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 6/10
He made a couple of important clearances but was far from convincing at the heart of David Moyes’ defence.
CB: Aaron Cresswell – 6/10
Cresswell struggled to give a good account of himself inside his half. However, he did create some decent opportunities for his teammates going forward.
RM: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
Coufal was solid on the defensive end of the field and was a good outlet in the opposition half.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 8/10
He worked tirelessly to help out his teammates in defence and got his name on the scoresheet with an emphatic header which rescued a point for West Ham.
CM: Declan Rice – 6/10
The English midfield ace struggled to get a foothold in the game and tried to make things happen when he got on the ball.
LM: Ben Johnson – 7.5/10
Johnson was bright and lively in the attacking third and tracked back to perform his defensive duties when needed. He got himself a well-deserved goal in the second half.
CAM: Mark Noble – 5/10
Noble failed to influence the game in the first half and got replaced at half-time.
ST: Jarrod Bowen – 6/10
The English attacker struggled to impress with his performance in the first 45 minutes, which led to his substitution at the half-time break.
ST: Sebastien Haller – 6.5/10
Haller put on another tireless performance in the opponent’s half but never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
CAM: Manuel Lanzini – 7/10
He produced an impressive performance after coming on at half-time and finished the game with an assist to his name.
ST: Andriy Yarmolenko – 6/10
Yarmolenko struggled to make himself useful in the attacking third.
